Does any one find their dark clothing fading? Mostly cotton is what i wear, use several detergents, wash in either warm,or cold.

@goldensrbest Have you tried Woolite for Darks? It really helps prevent fading in my clothes--cottons and synthetics. I never wash clothes in anything but cold water, no matter what they are made of.
For some reason, it's hard to find in the stores in my area. I order mine from Walmart or Amazon.

What I do with a new piece of dark clothing is wash it alone in cold water with a good amount of plain white vinegar. Run it through the entire wash cycle w/o any detergent, dry it and then wear it.
I always add vinegar to the final rinse cycle when I launder my dark colors as usual. The vinegar helps preserve the dye in the fibers.

@goldensrbest I also use Woolite For Darks and use the cold wash/cold rinse for darks. Nothing fades. Done this for years.

Almost all dark cotton fabric will fade with warm water and putting in the dryer.. I use only cold water for almost everything except towels and sheets and undies. I use All free and clear and hang to dry or dry until damp. Cold water will help with the fading most of all I think.

@SilleeMee ^This.
Also use cold water. Cold water keeps the fibers intact while warm water "opens" the fibers, allowing the dye to seep out.
Turning the dark clothing inside-out also reduces "friction" between the fibers of all the clothing; wearing the fibers down so that the dye, again, releases.

I've tried adding a cup of vinegar to new dark clothing to reduce fading. It didn't do a thing that I could tell.

@Kachina624, I have the same experience. I have read that the acid has to be introduced at the time of the dyeing process for it to really work but I still can't resist trying it particularly when it is something new.
