In my case it's my dishwasher.  You have to make your water temp and heat dry selections before closing the door.  Thank goodness I know an appliance tech..  Saved myself a costly service call.

Same here...mine is extra stupid since little plastic pieces keep coming off and getting lost on the expensive unit!

Mine works that way as well.  I thought all newer models (as in last 10 years) worked that way.

Mine doesn't even mention it in the manual!

Mine is the same way.  Choose the setting, press start and close the door.  No problem at all.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I got my first dishwasher 10 years ago.  I have to make the selections before closing the door.  Since I never had one before, I thought this was normal.

Of course it's no problem once you know that!

Bosch is the worse, you have to be an engineer to figure it out and woe unto you to get it off of factory default settings. Sure miss my wore out cheap model think it was a Whirlpool Gold. I want it back !

Bosch, you have to clean the filter every time it says Error22 I don't remember ever cleaning the Whirlpool it did it itself. Bosch cost a fortune and I'm no graduate of MIT.

I have an older Whirlpool dishwaster, probably 15 years old or more, that you close the door and then pick your cycles.  As soon as you pick the cycle/s it starts.
