@Mmsfoxxie wrote:Why would retired people get a check? How have we been affected by loss of anything.
@Mmsfoxxie Loss of money from 401K, loss of money from stocks. No way can we live on 2 SS checks which amount to diddley squat.

Believe it or not, @Mmsfoxxie, we have bills to pay and jobs too. We do not live off the land.... Get real for goodness sake.
If you are retired & still make enough money to file a return you should be eligible for it the way I understand it.
If people are not filing a tax return our government feels you are no longer contributing to society so not eligible???

Anyone who earned less than $75,000 (or less than $150,000 in the case of a joint return) in 2018 could get a check of up to $1,200—though as mentioned above, very low earners would receive smaller amounts.>>
This is ridiculous. Why would low earners get less of a check? Folks making over 50,000 should not get a check. The checks should be given to those who despertately need it and phased out as you earn MORE income not less. Low income people making under 20,000 should get the maximum and then less and less until it cuts off at 50,000. Ridiculous that they are sending checks out to individuals earning 70,000 a year who are just going to invest it.

From some of the comments here, it's apparent that not everyone understands all the purposes behind the stimulus checks.
That money is supposed to support continued ablility to meet loan commitments, support consumer spending on goods and services, and generally just keep the economy moving and avoid shutting down completely.
When people are laid off ffrom jobs, are confined to their homes , and businesses have no customers, something had to be done to promote the continued flow of money and spending through the economy.
People hopefully can use the stimulus money to pay rent, buy groceries and stay afloat until this virus problem abates and life can return to normal.

This may have been covered, I didn't read the whole thread. The last I heard last night is we all will get one. There's a catch if you don't make enough to file a tax return. You will have to file one. Why they don't know we get social security is beyond me. Of course this may have changed by now.

Thats pretty rude....they still have needs---prescriptions , food (some are paying for food delivery services because of compromised immune systems), they still have bills to pay -electric, phone, rent or mortgage--and everything keeps going up in price....I know many that work part time just because either their or their spouse's medication is so expensive....and their part-time jobs have been discontinued...
Why would college students need it...they can go back home and live with their parents and sit on their ass and be on their phones and play video games....(Im being sarcastic!)
I agreed with you until you started in on college students. A lot of college students work. Many could not survive if they didn't. I know one that help his mother pay the rent. He's out of work now. Any money he receives will go to help his family.

Investing it would be their right as taxpayer and citizen of this country. Just like the way some save all their money and others spend every dollar they can.

This might have changed, but the last I heard was people who fall between 40K to 70K of income will be eligible to get a check. Everyone else, above or below these amounts, won't be getting a cent. I hope that isn't true.
I have not heard anything about people on retirement income. Why wouldn't they be effected by this pandemic?? I receive (taxable) retirement income and lately I have had to pay more for my essentials, cancel doctor and dental appts. This, in the end, will cost me more over all because when I go back to get my dental stuff done then it will cost me more because I have to get re-examined. Same goes for my doctor's appt
