I like amex b/c you can set it up to receive texts or email whenever the card is used. And, unlike every other cc I have it tells you the $ amount and what/who it was used for. Maybe look into it.

You can do the same with the target card...I set up it in light of their hacking.

That's great. I don't have a Target cc. My VISA is pathetic, I get an email, usually the next day just telling me the card was used...no useful info.

That isn't right. Our visa was compromised twice and we new cards and didn't even know why....until much later when we read in the paper which major retailers were victims of hacking.

I'm still mad that target hasn't issued new cards in light of what happened. So I feel like this is my only recourse but the alerts are days after I buy something there...not the same day. {#emotions_dlg.ohmy}

Oh yeah, I wasn't clear. The amex alert is practically instantaneous. If I use it online I get the email while I'm still sitting at the pc.

The fraud department put me thru to customer service and I set it up to get an e-mail.

They have an app for a smart phone (but I don't have one and don't want one!)

You're going to like it a lot. It's very helpful and reassuring to know nothing is going on that you don't know about.

Wouldn't using at the dentist be a sure way for them to get caught being they know the patient?

I just looked up Century 20...it's a movie theater chain - that couldn't have been a big charge either!

Re: Someone has my AMEx card #...

I have our Visa set up for all purchases over $10 and I get the e-mail within minutes of placing an on-line order. If I use it at a store, by the time I get in I have an e-mail that it was used.

Maybe it depends on the issuing bank.

Our TV stations here keep warning people to watch for charges of $9.84 on their credit cards. That a ""test"" amount thieves are using to try out cards.

O/T

Some very engineering thieves have also managed to attach charges on utility bills in the $1.00 -$5.00 range. Companies have directed customers to be on the look out and check each line on the bill.
