Our Wegmans Now Offering Curbside Service

It started last month, as a trial at their flagship store, and it's been more popular than I thought it would be. For an additional $10, you order your groceries online, through their app, or your smartphone. Allow 40 minutes, then pull up and staff will bring your groceries, and accept payment. They have a few cold/freezer storage cases at the front of the store, and that's where the staff organize the orders and hold the selected products until pickup.

I still prefer to go into a store and shop, but it's great for those who want it (apparently, a lot do). I wonder if they'll ever deliver groceries. That's something that might be a good idea for the isolated or infirm elderly who can't get out. That's another issue, I suppose, as they'd be less likely to use the tech mechanism in place for ordering.

Technology is wonderful.

Re: Our Wegmans Now Offering Curbside Service

We have a small local chain that offers curbside service at its five locations for a $6.95 (customers order through their website or call in the orders; they have a three-hour turnaround time). For an additional $6, they deliver the orders within three miles of the stores with a $1 charge for each additional mile.

For me, it was a lifesaver when I became extremely ill a couple of years ago and eventually lost my leg, but I found it so convenient (and I am not as susceptible to impulse buying) that I continue to use the service.

They need to go all the way and offer home delivery. In the U.K this has been available for a long time.

Here in upstate New York it would be extremely helpful for older or sick people, new Moms etc. Especially during the long, harsh winters.

I am only 51 but I am always worried about driving on the slippery roads or getting injured falling on the ice. I would be thrilled to be able to have my groceries delivered to my door.

I think $10 is quite steep if I still have to come to the store. It costs less than that to have your groceries delivered to your house in the U.K, although there is a minimum you have to spend but it usually isn't a problem.

My Stop and Shop here in Massachusetts offers a FREE pick-up service. No FEE. They also offer home delivery and have for quite a few years now.

I'd have to think long and hard before I paid $10 for the service. Is that a One-time set-up fee or each order?

That is per order. I think it is steep too.

I think it would be great.

You are at work, need some items but are too tired or time limited...place your order ahead and pick.up.on way home. I could see myself using this.

Moonlady - is that the Pittsford store?

I miss working in Rochester...we used to go there several times a week...LOVED when they brought in the French pastry people!

Yes, that's the one. I love Wegmans all day long (though I do shop around), but that store is way too big, IMO. That's probably why people don't want to park and go in.{#emotions_dlg.confused1}

Yes, but if you just need a few items on your way home from work then $10 every time would be a bit expensive.

Re: Our Wegmans Now Offering Curbside Service

Wegmans is the best store when it comes to quality and service in the country. I am so lucky to have one in my area. I am addicted to Wegmans. Just last week they sent me a bunch of coupons for organic foods. And their family packs surely beat Costco.
