You can do the same with the target card...I set up it in light of their hacking.
That's great. I don't have a Target cc. My VISA is pathetic, I get an email, usually the next day just telling me the card was used...no useful info.

The fraud department put me thru to customer service and I set it up to get an e-mail.
They have an app for a smart phone (but I don't have one and don't want one!)

I remember reading about 'test runs' done by criminals using your card. They will try small amounts and then go higher and higher.
One of the purchases made by our thief was buying p0 rn on line from Buffalo, NY.

They wouldn't tell me...I don't think it was local and I always call them when I am going out of the state or down to NYC.

I've had this happen, over the years, with other types of cards and it's actually rather amazing how they catch some of them immediately upon attempting to make the charge.
Recently I had something where somebody had gotten into my account with an online retailer and attempted a purchase. Fortunately, I got the email about changing my email address. I had not, and it even gave the email address that it was changed to. Of course, at that point, I was unable to access the account. So I called them.
We were able to stop the sale (which would have gone on one of my credit cards) and cancel that account. Weird how that one happened.
The part of these things that is the most infuriating, to me, is that the retailers and banking institutions do not pursue these thiefs. I've been told that it's not cost effective so they just write off any loss (at least they take care of the cardholder) and it's dropped. That just gives the criminals license to keep doing this. I really wish that would change!

The funny thing is in our case was, the card was last used at a gas station convenience store. No other activity from then till Sunday. We had to contact Visa.

Husband has our AE card set up to alert of any charge over $10. There are some other alerts that can be set. I think this is a great idea! We also have a VISA thru our credit union and it irks me the same service is not offered. We had it compromised and got a call on Christmas Eve day. While I can go on line and check any charges sometimes they don't show up for days.

This happened to my AmEX last month. They called within 24 hours of the attempted charges. They called home phone and cell phone . . . I only half listened to message cuz I was sleeping late that day . . . thinking it was one of those darned calls that says this is about your credit cards but there isn't a problem . . . then they called again 3-4 hours later on both phones, again I thought it was those annoying marketing calls . . . my husband was working from home in computer room on other side of the house and came to where I was in house and said "you better call AmEX". Yep one charge for 500 something and another for 700 something. New card by FedEx within 48 hours was delivered.
Same thing similar to Citi card . . . a couple of craigslist charges, I didn't even know you could charge something to them . . . a match.com and a couple of others.
Husband was telling me one of his co-workers called and canceled a card . . . one of those 3.00 charges and thinking it was a "test charge" for thieves . . . then afterward remembered his wife had used it recently at a hotel with a vending machine for 3.00. ooooops ![]()

That isn't right. Our visa was compromised twice and we new cards and didn't even know why....until much later when we read in the paper which major retailers were victims of hacking.
I'm still mad that target hasn't issued new cards in light of what happened. So I feel like this is my only recourse but the alerts are days after I buy something there...not the same day.
