Re: So tired of gloom and doom

[ Edited ]

Where are all these allegedly "hysterical people"???  Yelling?  Screaming? Hair on fire?

Seems to me there's hysteria developing on the topic of hysteria--in other people, of course.

I don't detect any more hysteria over this virus than I've seen in two major metro areas over the prospect of a snowstorm coming.  Store shelves get emptied then, as well.

Then people retire quietly to their homes and hunker down to wait it out while listening to weather reports--or some encouraging news about the progress or lack thereof of flu and a new virus that is traveling around.

  It's not "hysteria" to think our next visit to a well-stocked store might not be able to happen for a while.  Shouldn't people prepare for that?

Please do not get angry at strangers that cough, sneeze or anything else in front of you.  Not all that do this are sick with a cold, flu or virus.  Some of us have allergies, smoke, COPD or lung cancer.  We still get out in public even though we get dirty looks and nasty remarks.  We do our best to control our sneezes,  We try not to cough, but when your chest fills up, you have to bring it up.

We can't wear masks when needed because the warmth of our breath and the heat on our nose make runny noses and tears from our eyes worse.  But, we try.

You can't catch what we have, but we can catch what you are throwing our way.  Your condemnation, your disgust, your anger.  We take that home with us.  You make us feel like dirt when all we wanted was to get out and enjoy the life you are living.  You live it in fear, whereas we see it as a good sign that we felt good enough to get out of the house for a few hours.

While you are being safe from your fears, please be respectful of the others that are fighting theirs.

@novamc1, yes, and it makes me wonder the reason for this drumbeat about hysteria. I didn't like it coming from on high, and I think it's been passed on down to some who have taken up the banner.

@I am still oxox

I don't think I've missed too many posts, but those alleging media "hysteria" and hoarding "hysteria" are getting kind of amusing because of their sheer quantity from critics who seem to be going a little overboard themselves.

My opinion only.

@Preds

I get what you're saying but you still need to be mindful

of the practices the CDC is saying we should all be doing.

Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue,
then throw the tissue in the trash.

Re: So tired of gloom and doom

My opinion only -

It's possible to be tired of the doom and gloom because - that's how you honestly see it.  i'm operating from a 'what if' scenario myself.  Everything is normal where I am right now.

it's possible to want to talk about the 'what if' scenario and prepare because you honestly see what ifs as a possibility.  Social distancing isn't really possible on my crowded island so I'm concerned with having some canned goods and masks, if I'm going to need masks to get out and about.

There are people who frame their reaction to events based on their own persuasions, and what some so-and-so said on the news.  Just read around them.  It's pretty funny though how the people who mocked corona preparation are now defending it and the people who were worried about it are now poo-pooing it.

@goldensrbest Well, judging from the number of folks that are simply laughing at those concerned, at least somebody in the govt. is NOT doing that.

I am not really sure why people seem to think nothing catastrophic could happen here. . .

This is one of those situations where those in medical field are _____if they do and _____if they don't.  If they warn us and nothing happens ppl get angry over all the gloom and doom.  If they say nothing and catastrophe strikes and many die then it's "why weren't we warned"?

And the other question I have - if we go thru this with little issues is it possible we were spared bc we were warned and everyone took greater measures to avoid it?

Yes I had a woman cough right on me at the grocery store on Saturday. I was even trying to keep my distance to no avail. She made no attempt to cover her mouth or even turn her head. Don’t know who she was, but if I get sick, I am blaming her!

I just had this almost happen to me at the grocery about an hour ago!  I came to the end of an aisle and turned to go to the next aisle. As I made the turn, a young man was coming toward me, a few feet away and immediately sneezed.  He made no attempt to cover his nose, just sneezed into the air in front of him. Was I far enough away?  Who knows!  (I immediately turned and headed in the opposite direction.)
