Re: So tired of gloom and doom

I guess I'm thinking (out loud) that, even if the coughing is allergy related, maybe a tissue held at the face/mouth would ease others' fears.

Actually, just a couple of days ago, a shopper in a supermarket was coughing in front of me, holding a tissue at her mouth.

Which I truly appreciated. Heart

I think it could be a matter of trying to be respectful to others who might be worried about being exposed to colds, flu, etc.

Wishing all of us well.

Well, you all should feel very blessed.

Some of us have things in our lives that are gloom and doom and some of us feel vulnerable and are afraid.

Some of us haven't lived a life where we feel safe and secure, and some have.  There are huge differences in all of us, and in our experiences, backgrounds, and situations in life.

Lots of us have had things happen that cause PTSD, or simply make us fearful because a lot has happened.

If you are not fearful, don't have issues that make you cautious, be happy about that.  But why try to shame people who are afraid?  Shouldn't we have sympathy for those people?

Sometimes, @Sooner , you post a gem.

And this is one of them

I agree.  My dear Mother grew up in England without enough food, very poor.  Then WWII came and England was bombed.  She joined the Woman's Air Force (WAF) and she met my Father (American).  Until then, she never knew what having enough was like. So growing up I watched how she behaved when the Cuban Missle Crisis hit and our hall closet was her supply closet (I was about ten and especially remember the box of Carnation Powdered Milk, was stunned that milk could be 'powdered').... but she was practical in what she did, did not panic (she'd been through so much already) and she always stocked up with basics.

In her later years, she 'built' a plastic trash can filled with emergency stuff in case we had an earthquake (we lived in So. Calif)....  thankfully nothing significant ever happened but she taught me (by example) to take whatever it is seriously and then plan for it the best you can..... and I'm so glad I had her example because I tend to go right to the worst scenario and I haven't so far (ok, a little at first) but I've turned that energy into buying some supplies, ordered the dog's food so I have a supply for her (she's diabetic) and DH and I go out each day.

Good luck to everyone out there.....

For those who are looking for some different news, there should be some primary election returns reported this evening.  Your choice as to whether they are "doom and gloom".

Re: So tired of gloom and doom

I have to admit to being a *tad* germaphobic and I have to admit when out in public if somebody coughs and/or sneezes without taking sanitary precautions I tend to go the other way.

I don't make faces or comments about being disgusted; I just go another way.  Which is really silly because the next aisle or area may have already been visited by the non-covering cougher/sneezer.

I realize some people have not been brought up to cover a cough and/or a sneeze.

I'm sorry when people have medical conditions that are not obvious and I'm sorry that they can be treated badly.

But most people are not going to think "Oh, that person coughed without covering her mouth because she has a medical condition".

It's just not the way most people think.

@Preds   Thank you for the reminder that every cough and/or sneeze isn't done to make others sick or done out of being rude.

You brought up some good points to ponder.  I'm sorry you have struggled with unkind looks or comments.Heart

Thank you @Cakers3 .  I always cover and apologize, even to the rude people, but it does get under my skin.

I'm still 'irked' by folks who walk around, coughing.

Happened again in a nearby nationwide pharmacy.

I'm wondering if some folks 'do it on purpose'.

Btw, I'm just right this minute wondering why pharmacies don't have sanitizing wipes at their door entrances.

Supermarkets, yes.  But, not, 'of all places', pharmacies (around here).

@ROMARY

I was wondering the same thing when I was at Walgreens yesterday!  All of the grocery stores I enter have sanitizing wipes, but none of the chain drug stores.

Unfortunately, we have no idea of how many are infected at this time, due to nowhere near enough testing..

I worked parttime in Customer Service at a grocery store for a while after retiring. I would get so perturbed at customers who coughed in my face.  Some didn't even attempt to cover their mouths.  I remember one guy who kept hacking and coughing so I stepped to one side, out of direct line.  He didn't even notice.

It does make you wonder how much testing is "enough"  One person who was tested twice and was negative came down with the virus - after being released from quarantine.

So should everyone be tested daily/weekly?  Just what would be sufficient?  I mean you can't know if you've been exposed.  So what should be done here?
