Re: Since when did HSN start adding tax to orders?

In my state, and many others, if an online retailer doesn't charge me tax, I am responsible for paying it directly. Since people apparently think not being charged tax at point-of-sale means they aren't being charged tax, states are going to be doing everything they can to get the online retailers to charge the appropriate tax. This will help level the playing field between online and B&M stores.

Re: Since when did HSN start adding tax to orders?

I live in California, and have been shopping via TV for about 13 or 14 years.

QVC and HSN have always charged CA state tax. When I first started shopping at ShopHQ, a few years back when it had another name, I was surprised that they didn't charge it. I have no idea what loophole allows them to do this, but in this economy, I'll take every break I can find.

I'm in Indiana. No tax was charged online unless I shipped to a different state. I haven't yet ordered this year so I don't know if they are now charging tax in Indiana.

I never get charged tax if I order online. If I were to phone in I would.

It looks like Indiana has a use tax though, similar to how my state expects (but largely fails) to collect sales taxes that weren't charged on online purchases.

That doesn't make tax fraud(which is what not paying online retail tax is) right. I live in a state that charges sales tax on food in order to give tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy. Overall, I view sales tax as regressive and hurting low income people the most.

I've paid taxes on my purchases from HSN for some time now as they are now collecting from most states. It's only fair to the B & M stores. I don't understand why some don't want to pair sales tax to run their state!! Yes there is wasted at times but the services your state provides have to be financed. Just think of all the services provided - someone has to fund them!

Yes... especially the over inflated incomes that the legislators give themselves with padded pay raises to boot.... Money that does not go to services needed but to give them the better than most lifestyle.
