My husband and I both have each others names on ourselves that we got years apart to commemorate something I won't discuss here. I swore I'd never do it previously but in the moment it was the right thing and I'm not the type for regrets even if something ends. It still would mark someone and something that's been a huge part of my life. And 20 years later, I don't regret it nor any of my other tattoos.

I'm not sure what to say other than I'm totally okay with you getting one.

That's great @jaxs mom. I'm glad the decision was a good one for you. I think the longevity of your relationship likely had something to do with it. To the contrary, though, I've known people who were only dating, got the tats, and eventually broke up. DD's b/f has his ex's name on him and I think both he and DD wish he didn't now.

It had only been three years when I got mine.

A totally personal decision. I personally think they're ugly. But that's just me. I would rather wear something that I could take off than be stuck with some permanent body decoration. But if you're drawn to getting a tattoo, why not? It's your body.

I don't at all get why someone wants a picture drawn on their body. I also don't think the colors they use are attractive.
I alway wonder what message they are trying to send. i'm cool? I don't even get why people have one to remind them of something . . I just don't get it on any level.
As many of you have read me post before, I am a firm believer that what we wear, how we have our hair, how we are groomec, etc. sends a loud and clear message about who we think we are, or who we would like to be.
It's a fact that animals appearance sends message to other animals, and I don't think we are all that different! LOL!!!

Thanks for the replies. A lot of good answers and things to think about before getting a tat.
And I love the tat pics some posted here.
You know that granddaughter of mine is very good at art. She paints. I may get her to "draw" one on me in marker first to see what I think. Great suggestion!
The 2 things people said here (also good advice) made me think. 1. I do get back shots would that matter w the ink? I don't think so because I see people at my pain Dr with ink. But 2. The lymph system someone mentioned. I cant get blood or blood pressure taken on my right side (just my left!), due to lymph node removal when I had breast cancer. (Yet cancer patients get tats) But I will ask the Dr about those things to be sure.
Lastly, it dawns on me today I have tats. lol Just DOTS where they marked me for radiation when I had breast cancer and getting those dots didn't hurt (but they are tiny)
