DR has been under a Level 2 travel advisory since at least April, 2019.

I wouldn’t go if they offered me a free vacation in a 5 star hotel.

@JBKO wrote:Hi everyone. Hope you are doing well. I haven't had a proper vacation since the week before September 11th. I went to Europe on a school trip in 2003, studied abroad in France in 2007, and went to Connecticut for a weekend last October. As you can imagine, I've been longing for a restful vacation ( I think I deserve it) and decided to go to the Dominican Republic in October with my sister and her boyfriend.
We were planning to go off the beaten track and explore parts of the country that most tourists don't encounter. I was so excited for our excursions (prehistoric caves with petroglyphs and even a blue pectolite mine) but now it looks like it's not going to happen. My sister is really worried with what's going on. Can you blame her? What would you do if you were in our shoes?
TIA
Please pick another place to vacation. Something is definitely going on there. Last night I read that a ninth American has died there. FBI is investigating. Since the situation is still under review I would not take a chance. There are many other beautiful places to go. Why take a chance if you don’t have to?

You might want to read this article from the NY Post - last week.
"An Instagram influencer known for traveling around the world with her husband said she was nearly abducted and sexually assaulted during their trip to the Dominican Republic."
Your plan to "go off the beaten track" could put you in danger.

I would go only if this mess is all straightened out. So many other good vacay spots, choose another place.

I wouldn't go there!!!! Obviously we have only heard of a small list of suspicious activity. Most airlines would understand and we willing to change your travel plans. I would hope the reservations you made could be cancelled.
Hurricane season is not the time to go to any island destination. Better to be safe.

No, you should not go.

Regardless of the current situation, I have heard that you should never stray beyond the confines of the resort there. Maybe if it was a large group excursion with a very experienced guide, but I certainly wouldn't go off exploring on my own. So, if exploration is on your agenda I would find somewhere else to go.

9 people are dead so far....what do you think???? Absolutely NO!
Why would you even have to ask??
