@jaxs mom I don 't think it applies at all. Once I see a gross shirless guy, it's not as if I stand there staring at him. They appear in my vision when I'm not especially expecting them or looking for them. The newspaper delivery guy walks up and down my street delivering the papers but not at a set time or day (it's the weekly neighborhood paper and at different times the ad bag). He has a choice of three days and any time when he can deliver it. I often have seen him as I've driven up or down my street, or going out to my car. I don't stand there and gawk but I would rather he be in a shirt. Same for men at picnic grounds, arts festivals, outdoor concerts, etc. I don't know when I'll see one. IMO your statement is totally inapplicable.

DH will often take his shirt off when mowing, trimming trees and bushes, gardening, or just about anything you can do in a yard. We live in a rural addition of about 50 houses. It doesn't bother me one bit. Everywhere else he wears a shirt.

I don't know what possess an older man to walk around in public without a shirt - it's just ugly imo when their posture is bad and their muscle tone is gone. I think most are in denial. Take my SO - please someone take him - no, I'm just kidding but he's in denial about his form and goes out to get the mail at times without a shirt. I've tried to stop him but he looks me square in the eye and sarcastically asks what's wrong with the way I look - will do the before and after skit and stick out his belly as far as it will go and after by sucking it in. Seriously, I just sigh and walk back into the house. Love seeing a well built man of any age - there are some out there that are older but rare.

@Ms X wrote:@BlingQueen022 It must be awful working construction in the middle of summer with a shirt on. I'd imagine a reasonable boss would let them at least wear a net tank top for modesty while still having some relief.
I find it shocking that someone had a neighbor lady who used to sunbathe topless. If she was in full view of families, that's beyond the pale. I'm surprised no one called the cops. Imagine little kids seeing that all the time.
Her hubby was the police chief.

I'm sorry for the ladies that are offended. You are more than entitled to your feelings/opinions.
In all honesty, this post made me chuckle. Usually there are lots of negative comments made all over the web regarding women with less than perfect bodies. Finally one about men.
Back in my 20s - in the 1980s - I worked for a landscaping company in western NY state. The guys who mowed the lawns made a few comments about an older (50s or so )European woman in a very upscale neighborhood who was topless in the summer. It was typical of the culture she came from. No biggie.
As I'm getting older, with my less than perfect body, I'm trying to become more comfortable with my self-image......wish our culture was more forgiving.

@BlingQueen022 The man delivering the newspapers here is at work. Haven't you ever seen construction workers outdoors who are shirtless? They are at work. I find it hard to believe you haven't ever seen a man at work who was shirtless (I wasn't talking about office jobs obviously).
@Pearlee Every construction worker I've ever seen be it summer or winter has had a shirt on. The only time I've seen a construction work shirtless was in a coke commercial on tv.
When I had my kitchen updated, the construction workers didn't wear shirts. It was in the middle of a terrible heat wave, and I don't have air conditioning. I'm not sure whether their boss, who was very strict, would approve, but I didn't complain. I was upstairs in my office most of the day anyway. It was a very difficult time to be working a job like that. We don't get a lot of heat waves up here.

I must live in the wrong area, lol. I live in the dc area and never seen a shirtless contruction worker. Maybe I drive there at the wrong time who knows.
But we have shirtless guys on bikes!

I agree. If they have a great physique - GREAT. Fat men who have large bellies that look like they swallowed a watermelon should NEVER go shirtless.

IMO a tank top is just as bad on a fat, aging, long, white haired man.
I was at a car dealership yesterday and saw just that. That's the kind that always wants to strike up a conversation with you!
Ewwww......

I have never seen men in public places without their shirts. But I don't like when men wear shorts to work in an office. I don't want to see their hairy legs.
