Here's some info:
Clown sightings and scares in America: A timeline of crimes, sightings
"Some of the first clown sightings began back in June and August,
stretching from the Midwest to the East Coast and through the south.
In Wisconsin, Gags the Green Bay Clown gained viral status after
grainy photos of a clown surfaced walking the streets under the cover of night.
Speculation was that Gags and other clown sightings might be related
to a viral marketing campaign for a movie, haunted house or other
entertainment product or venue.
Another report in South Carolina said a clown was spotted trying to
lure children into the woods. ....... "

Two words - Richard Ramirez. Best vigilante justice ever.
What was so great about it? All they did was beat him up, which apparently he was very used to......they should have finished the job.

@Bird mama wrote:Good grief - this post made me go to google to learn more about it.
There are 28 states reporting these sightings, including my home state. Right now, the couple of MI clown sightings are not near where I live.
I've been robbed (purse snatching) in my life which sort of marked me for anyone running up on me or getting to close to me, clown or not.
I wasn't a screamer and fall down to the ground person then - the guy had to fight me for my purse.
I'm older now and have even less patience for stupidity. Seriously if some clown runs up on me thinking this is a joke, the joke could conceivably be on him.
You go girl!!!

I couldn't agree more. I stop my car for animals in the road. Heck, I slow down (after making sure someone isn't behind me) for flocks up birds flying across the road.
Someone looking like they came from the insane clown posse? And, err, umm, no.
Can we call you if we see a clown?????

Two of today's "threats" were from teenage girls trying to start a panic at their schools - different girls, different states, I think.

I read there is a clown movie coming out and I am wondering if this is some kind of publicity stunt that has gone too far. In my opinion if you hang out after dark in the woods dressed as a clown with a weapon of any kind your going to find a world of trouble and especially if you are trying to get kids to come into the woods with you. Really are they crazy? I heard on the news someone shot a clown in Indiana. A lot of people don't like clowns and find them scary. In the past they have always been front and center in parades, charity work and helping kids but that perception is changing because of these sightings and its unfortunate for the good guys who dress as clowns to help their communities. The clown sightings are spreading into many states maybe its copy cats don't know or what there purpose it. I hope the police departments get on this and shut it down before anyone else gets hurt.

I read on our local paper's web site last week that people had been arrested in 12 different states for hoaxes involving these clown sightings. Either intentional or had turned into a mass hysteria situation. The college "sightings" are hoaxes too.
Anyone remember years ago when all these young women in a certain area came down with some sort of unique illness and it was thought to be mass hysteria? I remember watching a tv show about it but I can't remember what the outcome was-if it was ever confirmed to be real or mass hysteria.
It's easy to see how and why, in 2016, that mass hysteria can exist.

Well, we had a creepy clown sighting in my county. He was at one of those self serve carwash places - just creeping and waving. Not threatening.
