@golding76 Re your comment about him looking the 'healthiest' brought back a memory.
Last time - before Covid - we saw them and went backstage to me Charlie always had an almost transparent, very pale, skin tone - very porcelain looking - the others all somewhat sun tanned, wrinkled,
etc. but he was always very 'fragile' looking to me but a great drummer and gentle man!

RIP Charlie
The first thing I thought about was Keith Moon, drummer for The Who. Next month will be 43 years since his death at age 32.

dulwich,
Thank you for sharing your experience with the group backstage and giving us extra insight into which group members were truly rugged and vital. I understand your point. That translucent and fragile-looking skin might photograph well (sometimes), but it can be a tip-off that there is a chronic health problem.
Charlie Watts appears to have been a kind a gentle soul. It is easy to understand why he has been referred to as "the rock" that supported this group.
It makes me so sad. There is something encouraging and uplifting when I see folks around my age doing wild and vigorous things like touring. I'd probably collapse after the second night of performing.
How does Frankie Valli do it? He has rescheduled his U.K. tour for next year. He is doing the international scene in addition to the domestic.

I suspect there's a "portrait" somewhere in the house...
Either that or very good genes.

@just bee He was a crazy man, crazy, sad death, loved destroying hotel rooms and smashing toilets but what a musician - love Roger Daltry/The Who.

Extraordinary that Keith Moon has been gone longer than he was here.

Love this headline on the loss of Charlie Watts. From The Washington Post.
Charlie Watts was a gentleman in the world’s most dangerous band

I would LOVE to see Frankie V., but he is still playing large venues and I don't do those. I'm going to keep track of him for future concerts, however.
We've got tickets for Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues this September at a very small venue in Annapolis, MD. He does a solo tour and the evenings are always relaxing and filled with tears and laughter listening to the music of our youth.
@Pearlee and I have discussed our love of Justin many times, but I figured since she had a lock on Sir Paul, I would take Justin. ![]()
He still looks and sounds fab, by the way.
I find these concerts very bittersweet, but I cannot help from wanting to go just the same.
