Bruce would never write anything openly patriotic. If patriotic, pro-American politicians want to use one of his songs, you know that they must be misunderstanding the lyrics.

If Bruce wanted people to understand the real meaning of "Born in the USA", then he should have written music that conveyed a darker meaning, rather than a fist-pumping melody that would actually make the listener proud to be an American.

I don't want to jump to conclusions or make assumptions without asking.

Are you saying Bruce Springsteen is *not* patriotic? He is anti-American?

Well Lion, you have to admit, no one is going to confuse Bruce Springsteen with Ted Nugent.

"Shocked" & "unreal"...,..to finally figure out the Bruce Springsteen song 'Born in the USA' is really a sad, disillusioned song? Almost an anti-American song about the Vietnam vets coming back?

No it was E saying Happy F veterans Day...yes I know about Bruce's song....never liked him or it. Everyone has a right to criticize...but he makes millions off that junk.

I'm more displeased with his misogyny, most recently his lyrics about Lana Del Rey.{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

oh he has a new album coming out {#emotions_dlg.glare}

He lyrics about women/ girlfriend, mother are nothing new....yawn.Smile

It's a faux- controversy. Bruce Springsteen has worked tirelessy on behalf of veterans. The real reason he is being criticized this morning is because he supported and campaigned for a democrat.

Caravaggio:

Oh my. I apologize for offending you for the way Bruce says "Born". Personally, I LOVE regional accents. It was not my intent to disparage YOUR accent nor Bruce's. Sorry you took it that way.

Also, I apologize for not being able to understand what he is saying in that song...but that is meant as no disrespect to you either.

I didn't know anything about his support of a candidate, wookie. Thanks, that helps explain the sudden concern about his lyrics. Sure wish we all could get past this partisan stuff.

He doesn't mumble or garble the words..{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} he is making a good point. And he is not anti america and donates a lot to help so what exactly have politicians done?

His songs are deep but not for everyone.

I'm sorry but I own that album. I played that song often (it was a good one to exercise to) and I never understood a word he said except for "Bawn in the U.S.A....I Was Bawn in the U.S.A.

My brother was a Springsteen fan when nobody ever heard of him.

I'm not trying to tick you off Cara but it does seem to be the consensus that the lyrics are unintelligible

I've been kind of giddy all morning, but I can't stop laughing now. {#emotions_dlg.lol}

I love Bruce Springsteen btw, and understand his lyrics with no problem.

I like the jab at how Bruce says born because I say it the same way so I guess mocking my supposed NJ accent is OK?

I say it that way too.Cool

With all due respect, misogyny isn't yawn-worthy, in my opinion. It's always hard to hear, hard to know some of his fans love his lyrics. But I agree, it's nothing new with him.

Chrysler wanted to use Born in the USA for their commercials. Lee Iacocca was CEO at the time and considered to be one of the country's brightest star; an American sucess story. Boy, did he get the lyrics wrong too. Springsteen, to his credit turned him down and Chrysler did not use his song though Springsteen would have made millions from the deal.

News to me. Guess I'll have to Google it. I thought the uproar was about the f bombs and the rapper at the concert last night for veterans.

I don't and never will look to Hollywood or the Music industry for guidance or leadership when it comes to whom I choose to donate, support OR vote for . . . left, right or in the middle. I consider myself to be an equal opportunity voter. Smiley Happy
