"Shocked" & "unreal"...,..to finally figure out the Bruce Springsteen song 'Born in the USA' is really a sad, disillusioned song? Almost an anti-American song about the Vietnam vets coming back?

No it was E saying Happy F veterans Day...yes I know about Bruce's song....never liked him or it. Everyone has a right to criticize...but he makes millions off that junk.

He doesn't mumble or garble the words..{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} he is making a good point. And he is not anti america and donates a lot to help so what exactly have politicians done?

His songs are deep but not for everyone.

I'm sorry but I own that album. I played that song often (it was a good one to exercise to) and I never understood a word he said except for "Bawn in the U.S.A....I Was Bawn in the U.S.A.

My brother was a Springsteen fan when nobody ever heard of him.

I'm not trying to tick you off Cara but it does seem to be the consensus that the lyrics are unintelligible

I've been kind of giddy all morning, but I can't stop laughing now. {#emotions_dlg.lol}

I love Bruce Springsteen btw, and understand his lyrics with no problem.

I guess to me born and raised and still living in NJ this is a lot to do about nothing. I love Bruce no matter what his politics are whether I agree or disagree. That argument went out the window in the 80's it is not news. I guess for those who are not from here it is a big to do and maybe some see this as an opportunity to stir the pot but that too is juvenile. I have been to fifty or more of his concerts and he is Bruce.

I was neither born nor raised in NJ, and I find the controversy amusing. Why is it Bruce's responsibility to sing any way other than the way he does? Google, anyone? You can find the lyrics quite easily, if for some reason you cannot understand them. lol

Cara, I'm with you. It's much ado about nothing at all. President Reagan's mistaken understanding has been well documented since the 1980's!

And I would like to submit that Bruce's enunciation while singing isn't unique to this song, so any suggestion of him deliberately trying to deceive anyone about the meaning doesn't hold water.

Research is our friend!

Why do some care about Bruce's politics when it comes to his music when they don't have any problems with the politics of artists they like?

Don't tell me other music artists don't make their politics known. There are some, especially country artists, that clearly and often express their politics.

I am {#emotions_dlg.lol} at the music critics here.

Just think, if he'd only had this advice years ago, he could've been a much loved, much admired, one-of-the-great U.S. music icons.

Oh....that's right....he IS.

He was the one whining that people didn't understand his music. *shrug*

(by music I mean the LYRICS)

Hi, Qwackertoo! Good to see you, haven't seen you around lately.Smile

No argument from me. I think a healthy government is one which can be openly questioned. I've always felt that way. It's one of the many advantages we have as Americans.

Hi dooBdoo! Yep, we agree!!! Nice to "see" you too! I usually will post once or twice on a thread and "speak my piece" . . . and not get into the back & forth & back & forth that usually disintegrates into poof-dom. I have my say and move on . . . sometimes I'll post a reply to clarify or reply to someone who specifically replies to me . . . but the back & forth is not for me . . . doubtful I'd change anybody's mind/opinion and doubtful they'd be changing mine . . . I like to hear a variety of opinions but I don't want them shoved in my face either!!! Smiley Happy

I'm more displeased with his misogyny, most recently his lyrics about Lana Del Rey.{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

Yes. That is what I've heard in the news this a.m. NOT Bruce or his song.

I like the jab at how Bruce says born because I say it the same way so I guess mocking my supposed NJ accent is OK?
