Absolutely???
I heard an interesting discussion on this movie on TV. A vet was on and said it portrayed the absolute H3LL the families of soldiers go through. He discussed his two deployments, and this soldier's FOUR deployments and how it psychologically affects people.
He also said that moviegoers who cheer and applaud every time the sniper gets an enemy are wrong. He said it's not entertainment or to be taken lightly.
DH and I went to see the movie yesterday, MLK holiday. I assure you that this never happened at all during the entire movie. You could have heard a pin drop in that IMAX theater here in Hoover, AL. People were still in their chairs after the credits rolled, people wiping their eyes, and total quiet respect for what we saw. I don't think anyone who sees this movie thinks of it as "entertainment".

There were many soldiers prior to Kyle who have no regrets for killing people.
The pilot of the Enola Gay, Paul Tibbets, said he never had regrets or nightmares. His main concern was to do the best job he could. He dropped 'Little Boy' the atomic bomb that killed 78,000 instantly. That death toll almost doubled due to radiation sickness and those who succumbed to injuries. He had a clear conscious because in his words, "We were at war.".
There's nothing dishonorable about what Tibbets did. And I can say the same about Kyle.

Not one person cheered in the movie. The theater was completely full. When the credits were rolling, nobody got up until they were over. It was a very somber crowd.
I do not believe he enjoyed killing people...he wanted to protect our military...what we sent him over there to do.

He saved lives, risked his own life, and his family paid a dear price for his service to this country. He did suffer psychological effects from his service.
He stated several times that he wished to protect more of his fellow soldiers.
What good would it be for me to see the movie if I don't believe what it portrays? I don't believe I should see the movie and that's what I said.
I think my mistake here was in stating my opinion. Guess that is not acceptable to some. I should have bypassed this thread, as I had been doing. I guess I should apologize for daring to have an unpopular opinion. So sorry I intruded and I will now leave.
Ford, no one is faulting you for stating your opinion, but you, yourself admitted that you didn't know the whole story and that you didn't want to know the whole story (#221). I think that's what is puzzling other posters. How can you have an informed opinion about something if you refuse to learn the whole story? Getting your facts from newspaper clips and tweets are only going to give you a bias, IMO.

Each of my friends who saw the movie said there was complete silence when the movie was over...along with tears.

I don't get the sense he enjoyed killing people either.

Only Republicans are blamed in VP.

Sorry, but I vote for Selma for best picture. I am sure Bradley Cooper did a great job. I just don't want to see this movie.

I think people forget that when any President is out and about that there are trained sharp shooters ready to do their job. The only difference being is that they are called counter snipers. I am assuming their presence is OK with those who vehemently object to Chris Kyle.
