Many people grow up hunting with their families. That doesn't mean they're a natural born killer.

There has to be something wrong with anyone who can kill hundreds of people and is not only proud of it but regrets he couldn't kill more. He was a hunter and killer of animals in his childhood, in other words, a natural born killer. I do not put our brave soldiers who are in wars and risking (losing) their own lives for our country in the same category.
Read this and make up your own mind.
I also wonder what's wrong with individuals like Clint Eastwood and Quentin Tarantino who produce and direct only violent movies. Eastwood did act in The Bridges of Madison County and a couple of other non-violent movies, but by far 90% of his movies are grossly violent.
Ford he said he regretted not being able to save more of his men...not killing more. Do you realize he saved many Iraqis as well?
No, he regretted not being able to kill more Iraqis and was jealous of someone else who did. He did not suffer psychologically from killing women and children either. I don't know nor want to know the whole story, and perhaps that is cowardly of me. I just don't appreciate the glorification of someone like this man. He and men like him may be a necessity in our wars, but to me that is a tragedy, not heroism.
I don't fault anyone who believes otherwise. IMO, we are never told the real truths in any of our undertakings, whether national or international.
I'm a 60s peacenik . . . what can I say?

Ford, maybe if you read the whole story you could see the truth of what he really did and didn't do. Let the facts speak for themselves.

Wow how easy for you to sit there and pass judgment on this young man.
We're all passing judgment . . . pro and con. I am not doing anything wrong by expressing my opinion. Just because most of you think he's a hero doesn't mean I have to.

He lived his life protecting and helping the ""boys""..............and he died helping them............he was a hero in every sense of the word......................................raven

Ford, I guess we should fall to enemies then...if they ever come here and wish to kill us because we have "principles?"
If I made the statement you did here today...I would read the book or see the movie...you have accused him of being a monster.

Ford, you should see the movie before you make those sorts of judgments about him. I don't think he's a hero simply because he killed people. He saved lives, risked his own life, and his family paid a dear price for his service to this country. He did suffer psychological effects from his service.
He stated several times that he wished to protect more of his fellow soldiers.

Not even 90% of them.

Being for peace does not give you a pass. It just passes your obligation for fighting for that peace unto someone who volunteers his life to protect yours so that you can go around and judge. And feel holier then thou. Do you think the men and women who have served either through a draft or in today's volunteer military do not want peace? Everyone including you has the instinct to kill it is called survival. Fortunately we are lucky in this world that others are willing to act on that on our behalf.
