He saved lives, risked his own life, and his family paid a dear price for his service to this country. He did suffer psychological effects from his service.
He stated several times that he wished to protect more of his fellow soldiers.
What good would it be for me to see the movie if I don't believe what it portrays? I don't believe I should see the movie and that's what I said.
I think my mistake here was in stating my opinion. Guess that is not acceptable to some. I should have bypassed this thread, as I had been doing. I guess I should apologize for daring to have an unpopular opinion. So sorry I intruded and I will now leave.

If I made the statement you did here today...I would read the book or see the movie...you have accused him of being a monster.
ITA croemer. Some people get a pass on their opinions. I would be ridden off into the sunset.
War is hel-l-. No doubt. Innocent people die. No one applauds that.

I understand you don't want to see the movie. It's really not fair to pass judgment on the movie from the article you posted. It really distorts what the movie is really about.
We've all had unpopular opinions. Nobody is attacking you here. It's just part of the discussion.
It's an important movie in two respects, IMO. It highlights that we as a country can do better to take care of our vets. We're not doing enough for them. It also shows what a sacrifice these families make sending their husbands, sons, brothers, uncles and fathers over there to fight for us.
Plus, it was an awesome love story.

"Fall to enemies"????
Iraq wasn't a danger to us.
The civilian leaders did a great DISservice to our troops - making them put their lives on the line in a place we had no business being.
I don't blame the troops or this soldier at all - just the people who sent him there and those who weren't strong enough to object.

There has to be something wrong with anyone who can kill hundreds of people and is not only proud of it but regrets he couldn't kill more. He was a hunter and killer of animals in his childhood, in other words, a natural born killer. I do not put our brave soldiers who are in wars and risking (losing) their own lives for our country in the same category.
Read this and make up your own mind.
I also wonder what's wrong with individuals like Clint Eastwood and Quentin Tarantino who produce and direct only violent movies. Eastwood did act in The Bridges of Madison County and a couple of other non-violent movies, but by far 90% of his movies are grossly violent.
Wow how easy for you to sit there and pass judgment on this young man.
We're all passing judgment . . . pro and con. I am not doing anything wrong by expressing my opinion. Just because most of you think he's a hero doesn't mean I have to.
That's true Ford and it's people like him that protect and insure your right to say what you want.
God Blessed us with this brave man and all men and women like him.

I guess we can blame all of the people in Washington (Democrats and Republicans) who voted for this war, right?

Ford, I don't see anyone putting you down for your opinion. I DO see folks not agreeing with your opinion, myself included. Big deal. We are ALL allowed our opinion. So when people don't agree with you...you just leave? No need for that.

Absolutely!!!
I heard an interesting discussion on this movie on TV. A vet was on and said it portrayed the absolute H3LL the families of soldiers go through. He discussed his two deployments, and this soldier's FOUR deployments and how it psychologically affects people.
He also said that moviegoers who cheer and applaud every time the sniper gets an enemy are wrong. He said it's not entertainment or to be taken lightly.

We are allowed to sit here typing, going to dinner, living a safe life, having opinions because we have those willing to do the hard work of protecting us...even when we look down on them for hunting and eating the meat they "hunt", which has nothing to do with them giving up much of their lives to see we are protected. BTW: all of us who eat meat...do so because an animal lost their life.

I don't like killing or war or hunting or guns at all, by the way. It's much more than a war movie, IMO.
Not one person cheered in the movie. The theater was completely full. When the credits were rolling, nobody got up until they were over. It was a very somber crowd.
