Ruidoso Fire Update

[ Edited ]

We're having crazy weather in New Mexico today.  As the fires rage around Ruidoso, they had torrential downpours today with creek raging with rushing water.

I hope it was enough rain to contribute to extinguishing the fires and @On It 's house will be saved.  Many homes have been lost, along with 2 lives.  More rain could fall.

RVs in Ruidoso today.

In Albuquerque, just North of town, there was a dust storm that resulted in a 24 car pile up and the closure of I-25.  Something like 15 people injured.

@Kachina624, Sending up prayers for you and everyone involved in this mess.  Hope life will be saved, both for residents and rescuers.  Please keep us all informed about how you are doing.  That massive pileup of cars was so horrible I can't imagine.  Stay safe!

@Kachina624 Those RV's were outside of Ruidoso in an area we call Fox Cave on Hwy 70. It is the only escape route we have. I have heard that RV park is gone. Rumors are flying, but I suspect this one is mostly true.

I saw a photo of that pile-up and wondered how it happened. What a disaster!  Southern New Mexico and Northern Mexico were having a haboob this afternoon. Visibility was going to be something like 1/4 mile. I-10 had to be impacted if it happened.

I heard a news conference tonight about the fire and its recovery. Some think evacuees from Ruidoso will not be returning until late next week or the week after. The flooding and landslides are now concerns. People are still missing. The search for other victims will begin tomorrow.

@On It.  I'm sure many here have been thinking about you.  Have you heard anything about your neighborhood?

They said on the news tonight the pile up was caused by a combo of dust, hail and rain.  I'm about 25 miles from it and we had nothing but a hot day.  It's very windy tonight with rain predicted for tomorrow.

@Kachina624 Thank you for asking. Our house is just as we left it. Our neighbor has a camera that shows his house and ours. He checks it several times a day.

I have been updating the latest developments on the thread I started Monday. "Update: The Forest Fire is Advancing." on the Community forum. It has 8 or 9 pages thus far. It has some photos and details about the fire posted as the news became available. I had two or three late this afternoon. One of them showed the flooding.
