Retail Returns Warning (Walmart)

DD lost her job during Covid and has been looking for new employment.

She was hired for a job requiring steel toed shoes for a warehouse job, which she bought from Walmart.

Even though she was hired to work morning or afternoon shifts, she was given overnight shift, which would not work for her since she has a family.

Walmart will NOT allow her to return the $30 shoes, with a receipt (never worn), due to Covid.

Is this fair in your mind?

It's just the rules most places right now.

Have they addressed the issue of allowing returns retroactive to the shutdowns at some point.

I would say as long as they honor a return in the future it is as fair as it can be right now.

If they aren't going to extend the return times then it's not great, but I thought it had been well spelled out that most places are not accepting returns right now, so it shouldn't have been a surprise.

Temporary Return Policy Change

Effective: April 20, 2020

We are temporarily not processing returns/exchanges in our stores of: food, paper goods, home cleaning supplies, laundry soap, pharmacy, health & beauty and apparel.

If you need to return any item, including those above, and have a receipt, please start your return on the Walmart app or at Walmart.com. It’s easy and may allow you to complete your return without coming to the store.

If you’re not able to return the item online, don’t worry! Once returns reopen for impacted categories, we will be extending the return period by 6 weeks for those items.

No, they can never be returned according to Walmart.

@KingstonsMom   Are they worried the goods are contaminated or have they just temporarily shut down the returns department?  This policy certainly should be prominently displayed in the store.  Of course, to not take returns due to the virus is ridiculous.  It doesn't exist indefinitely.

Yes, it's fair.

You don't know what germy-germ-germs might be on the shoes.

Would you want to wear shoes that has been returned, not knowing if Covid is on them?

Plus, returned merch puts the employees at risk for contracting it.

I don't believe that. I'm not saying that isn't what someone told her, but I don't believe that will be correct.

I think they will be returnable, just not yet. Tell her to push the issue, and I see the post above that has a policy spelled out that seems to say they will be returnable.

Re: Retail Returns Warning (Walmart)

@KingstonsMom   If me, I would keep them, and search for another job.  My job requires steel/safety toe be worn, and when I bought my pair, they were almost $100.

There are lots of warehouse jobs out there, and other jobs that might require those types of shoes be worn.

It's likely more to protect the employees who are receiving the items as a returns.
