I remember Roseanne on her show and the waiter said that to her, so she gave him a big smile and said, "Hi, I'm Roseanne, and I'll be your customer tonight."
One of these times I think I will do the same.LOL
I have the feeling nowadays if you send food back or complain too much, they will spit on it or something else nasty.
We don't like unruly kids, especially when they hang over the back of the booth, I tell them to turn around, I'm not there to entertain them. I can say our compaints are about the same as everyone else's, sometimes it's easier to just stay home.

I have the feeling that food-tampering happens more in our imaginations than it does in real life.
Cooks and servers are used to having things sent back for various reasons, some of them silly, some of them legitimate...it's just part of the job. Unless you dine at places that are staffed almost entirely by teenagers, I would not worry too much about that sort of thing. It's really not unusual for things to be sent back, and I've never seen a cook or server get upset enough to do something so childish and gross.

OMG, my mother has done this all her life and it makes me crazy. If you are that afraid of germs, bring your own silverware or stay home!
Meh.
As a server, I'd rather have a customer request hot water and lemon to sanitize their utensils than have an unhappy customer who won't tip me very well.

Agreed. In all of my years in a restaurant (much of it being one of those "in the know"), I have only once seen anybody do something vulgar to the food. It was the owner who did it to his ex girlfriends food. It wasn't even one of the staff!

My biggest peeve....I hate when we are being seated, 8 times out of 10 we are routed to a small 2 seat booth instead of a larger 4 seat booth. This is at 5 pm when the restaurant is near empty. Or they try to seat us in the bar area in a near empty restaurant.

When they try to do that to us I tell them no - I would rather have a bigger booth. They always say Okay.

However, I'd like to bring up something that has impressed me time and time again. At the Chick Fil A near me, the employees are trained to sincerely say "My pleasure" anytime they are thanked.
For example:
I ask for a tea refill. Employee gives it to me. I say, "Thank you." The employee responds, "My pleasure."
It is such a courteous response these days. Usually when I say "Thank you," I get "No problem" in response!
if they are trained to say it, that doesn't mean they really mean it. It is part of their job and they HAVE to say it.
What is wrong with "no problem"? To me, it means that it was no problem at all doing this for you, it is part of my job and whereas you thanked me, you don't really need to. It is a lot more honest that being "trained" to "sincerely" say "My pleasure" - cause I know it isn't their pleasure - it is part of their job and they HAVE to do it.
I also say "no worries" as in it was no problem and don't worry about thanking me.

Seating is my issue too. I travel frequently so need a table for one. "Party of one" to the host/hostess seems to mean the bad table next to the stinky bathroom, chilly entrance, or noisy kitchen door or being seated at the bar. If I have to argue with a host about a more pleasant seating arrangement, I'm outta there.
