Our son and his wife are expecting their 1st child and I thought I might want to give him a token gift to remember the event by. Has anyone else done this and/or what ideas might you have. He is almost 40 y.o.

I have 10 Grandchildren and never actually thought of giving the parents a gift other than things for the babies. Maybe a good camera to take the many pictures your Son and his wife will be taking.

First of all congratulations grandma. Many a nice photo album that you could start with pics of the wife as she goes through the months of being pregnant and they could continue it with pics of the newborn. People take so many pics of their first baby. It's such an exciting time.

I would give them a decor item that could be added on to, as more little ones join the nest (sort of like those charms for charm bracelets) or a series of frames.

What about planting a tree for each baby?

I'm pretty sure the baby will provide enough memories for them....LOL Is that something new? Are people giving gifts to expectant parents when they announce the big news? Between the shower gift, the christening gift, the "just because" baby gifts; I kinda doubt that I would give the parents any type of gift. Perhaps a balloon bouquet when they come home from the hospital.

Love this idea more than my own... to do something special with the precious footprints of your firstborn grandchild. There are lots of creative ideas for that, but what kid doesn't love growing up with their own tree?

Hello everyone! I failed to remember where I posted and therefore could not find your lovely replies. LOL Talk about senior moments! I want to thank all of you for your time and suggestions. I think they are all good ones.
No, Chrystaltree, I don't think the world has come to this. I guess I was just feeling sentimental about my son finally having a child. The baby will arrive by the middle of March so don't have long to wait!

I like the idea of something for the parents but I would get something for them to personally enjoy and not baby related.
I always bought a personal present for my friends along with the baby gift and it was always so appreciated. Sure they were celebrating the baby but their identities were lost in the baby shuffle and no one likes to just be the mother or father of the baby (no matter how happy they are about the baby - except for the Duggars maybe) for the whole pregnancy and afterwards even though they would never say it.
