Never Forget.
It was past sacrifices that made America great. So few know why. So few care to remember. So few are taught the history and sacrifice of the nation. So many take war for granted.

Sad thing is, ask any 20 or 30 something what happened on this date, and most likely, you'll get a blank stare back.
those events happened 70+ years ago, no reason to cast blame or think less of a 20 year old kid because of their age
If they have had any high school education I would think they would know, or want to know why the United States, allows them to say anything they wish/practice any religion you choose, and HEY, even volunteer to serve the great country you have the good fortune to be able to live.
I do think less of a 20 year old that doesn't know why and how their freedoms came about, especially WWII. I was 20 once and was a member of the US Army at 19, by choice. Their age means little to me, but anyone out of their teens, supposedly educated? Why would I care more rather than less?

Yes, the sacrifices of many who endured the horror of war should never be forgotten. My DH and I make it a point to watch shows on the History Channel, which really drives the point home. Not pleasant to watch, but it gives you a very real glimpse of what our soldiers endured for our freedom. They were "The Greatest Generation."
A few years ago I became acquainted with a very special man through my volunteer work. I did get to know him a bit, but he was very quiet and a man of few words. One day, by chance, I sat with him and his daughter. She told me he was a veteran of WWII, and I of course thanked him for his service to America. His daughter then mentioned he was part of the DDay invasion. I looked at him and told him I could not begin to imagine what he had gone through. All this gentle man said was, "There were a lot of bodies in the water." Few words, but I have never forgotten them and never will.

Actually, I think if you ask anyone under 50 what happened on June 6th, you'll get a blank look. I'm 56 and informed about history and it didn't register to me when I saw the date. For those of us who are under 70, it's history. As distant to us as the Civil War or the War of 1812. It's not a bad thing, it's just that time marches on and every generation has it's own momentous events. 25 or 30 years from now, when you say September 11th to a 30 year old, nothing will come to mind. They will have read about it in school but September 11th will just be the day before September 12th to them.

I'm not casting blame or think less of a 20 year old because of their age.
But, if you don't believe what I say is true, then just ask any20 - 30 year old what happened on this date in 1944, and see what you get in response.
You may be in for a heartbreaking shock.
Oh here we go again blah blah blah about what 20 & 30 somethings know.
How about ask the 20 something Marine over in Afghanistan?
Or how about , do you know what event was celebrated as a centennial over in Jordan last Thursday? Or what happened 49 years ago in Israel yesterday? Without quickly googling?? They both changed and impacted the world in which we live.
So maybe some 20 or 30 somethings don't know but that blame lies with their elders who should know better!
