I had a friend that strung a ton of white lights on a real tree. She hated taking the lights off the tree so bad. She wound up throwing away the tree, lights and all. She did that for years.

Well you just gave me a great idea ha That sounds like something we would do.

Re: Real or Artificial Christmas Tree?

I used to prefer real, but somebody gave us a beautiful artificial prelit tree and I love it. Can't wait to start decorating!!!

I have a relative who is a lightaholic and it takes her hours to do her lights. When she went to an artificial tree, she strung all the lights and decorated the tree. When x-mas was over, she took off all the decorations but left the lights on. I would help her carry the tree into her basement and she would cover it until next year.

She's back to real.

That is what I do.

The only thing I miss about a real tree is the wonderful smell.

There is something you can buy that you hang on the tree that gives you that pine smell. You can buy them at Home Depot.

I can picture them but can't think of what they are called. When I think of it, I'll post.

Just thought of it. Scentsicles. They really are nice.

Thanks, I'll check them out...

Artifical trees and real wreaths hanging in the kitchen. That way we get the smell. Smile

That's what we do! I have an artificial pre-lit tree I bought from Q many years ago. It's held up rather well, but last season part of the lights went out. We tried to fix it, but had no luck, so we just strung a string of lights in the "blank" area...works for now.

But then I buy a FRESH wreath from Costco or some other source and hang it in the entry hall....the smell is wonderful!

Re: Real or Artificial Christmas Tree?

Due to my daughters asthma and my husbands COPD, we can only use an artificial tree now. When the girls were young, my husband always took them into the woods to cut our Christmas tree. Once they reached their 20's, we bought our live trees from the local veterans group. I like both, but the years we dealt with bugs in the house from the live tree, as well as the tree we couldn't keep upright, or the tree that dried out so fast before Christmas that the lights and ornaments slid off, I have to lean towards artificial as my favorite. The first year of my retirement, I celebrated by leaving my tree up all year, which I plan to do again, thanks to my beautiful artificial tree.

Re: Real or Artificial Christmas Tree?

We now do a pre-lit artificial and we love it. So much easier. When the girls were little it was always a real tree and it was a pain in the neck getting it into the stand, stringing the lights and always watching the water level. In fact we even down sized our artificial tree last year. One less thing to worry about around the holidays. I say go for it.

Re: Real or Artificial Christmas Tree?

I stopped doing this many years ago but if I still did, it would have to be artificial.

I just hate that all those trees are killed every year. Smiley Sad It makes me very sad.

Re: Real or Artificial Christmas Tree?

I prefer real trees, in someone else's house. One year my dad made us (siblings) get down on our hands & knees to pick pine needles out of the carpet after we "forced" him into getting a real tree when he wanted to buy an artificial tree. Lesson learned.

I stopped putting up trees years ago.

Re: Real or Artificial Christmas Tree?

Now I'm thinking of the thread that plants feel pain. Do live Christmas trees feel pain when cut down?
