I thought the opening ceremony was visually stunning! The narration by the correspondents helped me understand some of the concepts. I thought it was interesting that the money for the show was extremely limited (12 times less than in the UK and 20 times less than China) so they had to rely heavily on electronic special effects. Much of what appeared to be mechanical or "real" actually was an optical illusion, and incredibly skillful. Extraordinarily beautiful, and when we imagine the feelings and experiences all the young athletes have as they participate... spectacular and well-done, in my opinion.

I thought it was the longest, most boring thing I ever saw. My sweetie kept watching it until the very end. But he watches golf too. . .

They did the best they could with what they had, and some of the visuals were striking, but all in all? Boring. It just was/is (still on for the West Coast).
