no, i am not always crazy about doing things on "auto delivery."

i like having them in stock and on hand always.

i do at least a  hundred plus pages a month usually.

i use 67XL cartridges from HP.

right now they are on a cyber monday deal on amazon.....a double pack.....one black, one color for $34. a 67xl two pack of black is $36. a 67xl pack of two black and one color is $54.

Hewlett Packard somehow knows when an off brand is installed and they immediately send an email saying the warranty is no longer available. I find that, after a time or two of buying new cartridges, a new printer is often less expensive. I'm not paying $100 for cartridges for a $125 printer!

@Carolina925

A while back, I recall reading about a class action lawsuit against HP for this, claiming a printer ink monopoly.

Here's what I found:

"HP faced a class action lawsuit for pushing firmware updates that made its printers incompatible with third-party ink cartridges, effectively forcing customers to buy more expensive HP ink. The lawsuit was settled without HP admitting wrongdoing, and only a few plaintiffs received compensation, while many affected customers were left without significant recourse."

If you've been annoyed that your HP printer doesn't work with non-HP ink and toner, a recent class-action lawsuit settlement means you can decline the update forcing the change, but only if you have a few specific models.

With a long term objective to make printing a subscription  HP set in place 'dynamic security' systems that authenticate ink and toner cartridges in your printer. The 'dynamic security' system changed printer compatibility digitally to disallow some printers from working with non-HP ink and toner. This means that some users bought printers without those restrictions, only to find them added in via an update, after purchase.

Alternative Printers: For those looking to avoid similar issues, considering brands like Brother, which are known for compatibility with third-party cartridges, may be beneficial.

@Tinkrbl44   we have always had HP printers.  But we got so a while back when they warned we weren't using HP ink, yada yada we just went for it, lol. I figured the money we saved, out weighed buying a new printer if it failed. I have to say, law abiding person I am, lol I got a little nervous putting those dupe cartridges in.  lol felt like I was pulling a heist, looking over my shoulder waiting for the warning. lol lol

Well, I'm surprised they didn't come crashing in your front door and take you away in handcuffs!

Well, as I stated upthread, I have a good seller on Ebay and use their $15 generic cartridges, and all is well.

Yes you are.  But, as inexpensive as this printer was, I may join the criminals IF I can.  I may get a message from HP warning me of criminal activity Smiley Surprised

I don't print from home very often, but I signed up for HP’s Instant Ink program. You get a certain number of prints each month, and whatever you don't use rolls over up to about 150 pages, I think. When my printer starts running low, they automatically send replacement ink, which is super convenient. For me, it’s worth it. I pay a little over $5 a month, but they have different plans depending on how much you print.
