Not to mention, many of us don't want to sweat, ruin our makeup, our clothes or simply feel gross. This is not the suffering Olympics and there are no medals being given to those who choose to sweat it out vs those who don't. Just saying!
@FiddleDeeDee Good luck not sweating. Just saying!

I grew up with no air conditioning. I remember very well how horrible it was in school trying to concentrate when you are hot and sweaty....it was miserable. I do not want to do miserable ever again. We have many many days of over 100-degree weather here.

Many families where we live have this specific type due to the type of floorplans we have and the fact AC is simply needed due to where we are located. The thing is, others have said (this is via our FB page) that they have NEVER had a need for it in the 15,20, 25 years they've lived here as the power comes back on after a few hours or so.
Still......hot is still hot.
We're looking a portable one that can go with us from house to house. South to North, etc. We've lost power due to hurricanes/snow back East for 1-2 weeks and paid a HUGE price for not have a generator. With the weather going the way it is, I think it's simply a smart investment for anyone.
@FiddleDeeDee We installed a Generac whole house generator after Sandy. It cost us approximately $8000.00. Best investment ever.
@Boehm Collector That's the brand I was talking about. For a 3000 square foot home and to cover the AC, the average price is about $14,000. Many installed it after Hurricane Irma hit.
Our damage in MD came from Hurricane Isabel; almost $200,000 and NONE of it covered by insurance. ALL of it due to not having power for almost 2 weeks.
If we were going to be here for a long time, I could see investing in it but as renters? Or buying and then moving after a few years? Not so sure it's worth it. As I said before, many state they've never had a need for one. I just don't know *shrug*.
@FiddleDeeDee ... our home is much smaller than your so that explains the price difference. I think ours was a good investment but I don't plan on moving.

@Pearlee And that's why we all want, (well, maybe not everyone) loves, has, lives and works in AC'd enviornments, lol.
