My main objection to his thread is that the OP is accusing people of willfully posting a link to an "innocent" page that happens to have something controversial to the side. I truly doubt that anyone does that
@suzyQ3 I agree. If one wants to get in a controversial remark, they usually do by innuendo or even by using outright plain English.
I very, very seldom open a link but I also don't look for trouble in the link. So....sometimes it's just another round of being offended where no offense was meant.

I, on the other hand, would not be surprised at all if some posters did it intentionally. There are some really nice people here, but there are a few who are clearly up to no good and seem to get their thrills by making posts they know will cause a stir. I also think some of them have multiple usernames rushing in to offer support. There are too many patterns to suggest it's not happening by accident.

Since the side click-bait (which is what most of these sites get their revenue from) material is constantly changing, just like it does on FB, most of the time unless a dozen people clicked on the link within 2-3 min or less of the person having posted it, chances are very great that what was there will not be the same for subsequent viewers and may be quite different. Now, if it's a site that has heavily political content to start with, such that most of their content is political period, there's a clearer motive.

oh for heavens' sake.
Opening a link to an article, or as someone else said earlier "providing sources" and we know there are posters here who love to say that, does not mean someone went to a site and deliberately copied and pasted a link to a story which would have multiple other ads/stories on the main page. Without using Adblocker, this happens all the time.
In fact, I remember not long ago a poster here said that when she clicked on some articles, racy photos and stories came up alongside the main story and people called her crazy and that neve happened to them.
Yes, it does happen. There are sites that run articles and ALWAYS have offensive sidebars attached. Most of us know that crawling through the web can bring up lots of stuff we don't want to see.
I think no links should be posted at all. You want to make a point? Copy the relevant part, name the source, and paste it.
I can't believe the OP thinks people are being "slick" at doing this. More likely, just think they read something and are providing a link to others to read it.

Especially because they change all the time. So the objectionable side wall link may not have been there when the poster posted the link.

IMO posters don't deliberately post links with political sidelinks. These articles can change hourly. Most links have them, so they can pay for the site.
