According to a DR on the Today Show this morning, it might take 1 to 1 1/2 yrs before there is a vaccine.

I bet in one year, people will be like, "Remember how crazy we all acted?"
Back in the 80's, the AIDS crisis hit. I was in my mid-20s...and was
very concerned. Scary...but we were educated & everyone adjusted
behaviors, but it left/leaves a high death count. We see those changes
in our everyday lives...giving blood, having the dental assistant
wear a large mask, contained used needles, 1st responders having
to test if poked by a needle, to name a few. The AIDS epidemic
affected all of us in some way or another....and the changes
just blended in with our modern day life.
But this is different since the spread is asymptomatic.
And the reproduction rate is high.
It will continue to replicate itself until everyone does their part
to stop the virus.
One year? Hardly.
It will take years for the testing & trials to be completed just for a
vaccine....and that's after we've contained it & figured out how
to stop the spread.
The only way we'll say, 'remember how crazy we were'....
is only if we experience something MUCH, MUCH worse.
My SO is a police officer & he sees everything.
When Ebola was in Dallas, I kinda freaked out.
He said...don't worry about it.
Flu? Don't worry..but wash hands & get your vaccination.
I asked about COVID-19....and yeah, he's really concerned.
This 'feels' different...spinning out of control.

Unfortunately most folks have minimal understanding of what exactly a virus IS. Viruses constantly mutate--cures are almost impossible. It is possible to create a vaccine for a certain strain of a virus, but that is only good for the moment. The challenge is trying to stop viruses from entering hosts--whether the hosts are people or animals. It is not clear yet whether those who have been infected now have any kind of immunity, but Covid 19 can seriously and permanently damage lung tissue. HIV is another type of virus mankind has learned to live with. We may be facing a long-term experience with this virus, or we may be blessed to see it disappear when hot weather returns, something that has happened with other viruses.
Danny Branstetter, MD, Infectious Disease Specialist said this will spread throughout the World. He said it's not if it's a matter of when. He said it may decrease some in the summer months but would be back. ITA we will be dealing with this long term.
'....this will spread throughout the World.'
'....it's not if it's a matter of when.'
What an odd statement....unless this 'doctor' was saying this back in January or before. Of course it HAS spread throughout the world.
Where has he been the last 2.5-3 months??

"Yeah, man, how crazy was that sh!&?"

From what I've read, several people have discovered computer algorithms that may help them create a cure, but none of them have been tested, they're all just computer models.
Even if someone created a vaccine or a cure tomorrow, we'd still be looking at months or a year before it could be tested, approved, manufactured, and distributed. I'm sure they could expedite it, but none of these things happen quickly.
The Ebola outbreak that scared everyone was in 2014. The FDA approved the first Ebola vaccine in 2019.

It is being said that we are past the point of containment with this. Now we have to try and mitigate it

I learned something new.
I was using the word 'contain' & 'containment'.
Contain = hold/control/restrain
Mitigate = make less severe
