NO FEE. Did she get the card from Money Network Cardholders Services? It is a debit card. She might be doing it incorrectly. It will come with a letter of instructions to access it and find out how much money you got. There is no fee at all. You can go directly to your bank with the card and they will deposit the money for you.
@songbird depends on where you use it if there is a fee. Every fee is stated in the letter that came with. I believe it is with certain atms there is a two dollar fee. If you have the letter you will see this.

@proudlyfromNJ OK I'll look at it. My husband did it online to be transfered to his bank, and there wasn't a fee. I would not take the card to an ATM. They could have gone through the bank line in your car or a distant selected line at the tellers station.

I only know of people who received direct deposit or checks .
Wonder if it had anything to do with owing taxes last yr and did they pay with a credit card ?

@songbird We are going to the inside of the bank and depositing it in our account.

It's been on the news, various tv shows for the past month that people were getting debit cards, not credit cards. All you have to do is go to the bank and cash it in, easy peasy.

This was discussed so many times here and also on the News. I hope by now everyone knows about it.
I was wondering why a Debit Card, but if the IRS has no banking information for you, they assume you don´t have an account, so with a Debit Card you can still do your shopping, where as with a Check, you might not be able to cash it without paying a great fee at a Check Cashing Store.
Ok, I´ll keep on believing that lol.

@stevieb at one point they were asking people to update their Banking Information on the Website and a lot of people did it. A few of the Posters here also did that.

@77yangya Why would you call the police???
Here we go again-anybody who paid attention to the stimulus issue would have known debit cards would be issued and why.
All you had to do was check the IRS website. Since your husband did that, what is the problem?

@songbird I also heard that if you want cash, they give you names of ATM where you won´t have to pay a fee? I got mine by Direct Deposit so I don´t know but i think I read it somewhere.

WHY do people assume that everyone has TV and sees "the news"? In most places, having "the news" costs money, so some people won't. I haven't had TV in many years and only take the NYTimes online, and have seen nothing about these cards there.
The official line was direct deposit or mailed check. No third method.
The plain envelope, a name that itself sounds fake (" Money Network Cardholders Services"), lack of a letter before the fact alerting people to watch the mail, etc. is leading to this confusion. It's no fault of the OP's that she didn't have the facts.
