Paul is a great entertainer and the same age as me. Loved all his music - from the beginning of his career.

Around 7 years ago, I was walking with a friend in the Oaks Mall, Thousand Oaks, CA. I noticed Paul walking alone to the left of us. He was wearing sun-glasses (in the Mall). I said, Hi, and he was the unfriendliest person. He ducked into Penney's Dept Store - to avoid even saying Hi back.

He lived in Westlake Village at the time - very close by. Then I read he was getting divorced from his 2nd wife. In real life - not so nice.

Not that long ago, but pre-pandemic,, my husband & I attended a Paul Anka concert.

In the row in front of us was a young boy, less than 10.  The woman seated next to him asked if he knew who Paul Anka was & her replied, "Yes, my father."

The years do go by quickly.  It was like yesterday when I saw Paul Anka in person in Las Vegas and enjoyed his  singing so much.  I will say he was rather short and when he came down off the stage to walk around those of us sitting down, he sometimes could barely be seen.

That, however did not interfere with the great show he put on for us lucky people.  "Happy Belated Birthday Paul Anka and thank you for entertaining us."Heart

@kivah

How unfortunate...now, that is the memory you have of him.

This is why I never want to really "know" any "stars" as I don't want to be disappointed.

I've had similar experiences at concerts when we've purchased a CD, and then the artist sign it for you.  The few times I've stood in line, the artist didn't even look up, so I stopped doing it.

I'd rather have a memory of them from afar than be disappointed by a cranky persona up close Cat LOL

Today somebody in my house was watching The Gilmore Girls. I just walked into the room and a guy was saying "I'm watching my friend's dog and she named him  Paul Anka and Paul Anka just got into my chocolate and ate it all!" hahaha So funny. Beautiful dog, too. English Sheep Dog puppy.

One of my favorite songs that he wrote was "Times of your life" and I remember the Kodak commercial that made it popular.

Hw wrote "MyWay" and "Anytime, I'll be There" that Frank Sinatra sings. And who can forget the famous theme from Johnny Carson show.

I danced with my Dad on my wedding day to Times of your life....it was a very special moment and song that I'll never forget.

A little trivia, Jason Bateman is married to one of Paul Anka's daughters for 20 years.

Love 'Lightning Strikes' and his other songs.

I usually chuckle AND get irritated when I hear that song...talk about double stardard! ;-)
