From what I've read in PA it's optional to get a Real ID or not.

I don't fly and it's only entrance to Federal Buildings that require ID to enter.  You don't need one to vote, go in hospitals, the local Courthouses, SS etc.

I just got mine renewed in 2018 so I'm not worried about it.

@CrazyKittyLvr2

Thanks. If that's the case I don't need one.

Yes - around 4 months ago.  They were honey badgers with all the emails and mail about it (Maryland MVA).

So no jury duty if you don't update your ID?

My thoughts exactly. Last time I received a notice I threw it in the trash & went to Fl. LOL!!!

And then people complain when a jury doesn't come back with the "right" verdict in a trial.

Yet, people shirk their civil responsibility to serve on a jury.

You (general meaning!) can't complain about how other juries are if you (again general meaning!) aren't willing to do it yourself.

Just like voting.

You (again, general meaning) can't complain about the outcome if you don't participate.

I'm proud to respond to a jury summons.

I consider it my AMERICAN, PATRIOTIC duty.

Too bad more people don't.

Edited: I should not have made this joke. You do not need Real ID to go into a Federal Courthouse or be on a jury.

Well I received the notice & was leaving the next day to go to Fl for 3 wks. I would have had to report while gone. Not changing my plans for that.

I won't remember what all was said so I won't make a fair juror IMO so they are better off.

I don't vote any more either. IMO my vote does not count.

Ditto on the passport! This has been known for some time, so I have been encouraging family and friends to get theirs.

@SunValley   Interesting that the cost would vary from state to state . Since the license is a Federal requirement. I didn't know that.

My license will be up for renewal next year so no big deal.

If it hadn't been, I would just use my passport.

If I got called on for local jury duty it should not matter if I don't have a real ID.  I've read it's Levels 3, 4, and 5 Federal buildings. I think Level 5 is the Pentagon etc.

I'm 69 yrs. old and have never been called for jury duty.

If I get called for a Federal jury I have all my documents I can go get a Real ID if necessary.

I just got mine this month when my DL expired and I didn't have to have my birth certificate - just my passport and proof of address. I did get a new social security card for proof of the number, but I could have brought a tax return for that. It was very easy. And, since I also travel outside the US, I will still need my passport.
