I wish this was more of a promising solution and I'm sure everyone does.

I just heard from a doctor today and also read from Mayo Clinic doctors and more, that this drug and others they are testing, in some patients can cause sudden cardiac arrest.

Yikes! That is really scary and they are trying to identify and be very careful about which patients they give it to. So it is definitely not a miracle drug unfortunately.

Now I would be afraid to take it. I had not heard this information before today.

Meds given for the flu can also cause cardio-arrest.  The cytokine storm patients can go into cardiac arrest, too.  Being put on a ventilator is pretty traumatic, too.

Only a certain politician and a certain news outlet downplayed it and called it a hoax from the beginning.

I think they went wrong when they announced it wasn't seriously affecting those under 60 and children. It allowed for disregard of the virus and people going on with vacations plans, parties...and spreading the virus.

Re: PM Boris Johnson

[ Edited ]

From The Guardian:

While Johnson is not known to have any underlying health conditions, he has been open about his struggle with obesity – a known risk factor for coronavirus.

According to a report published last week, more than 70% of patients placed in intensive care after being infected with Covid-19 were overweight, obese or severely obese on the body mass index scale.

In December 2018, when Johnson was foreign secretary, he said in the Spectator that he weighed 16 and a half stone, which at 5ft 9in would have put him in the obese category. Johnson has lost weight since then, but it has fluctuated significantly throughout his political career.

A local State Rep. Karen Whitsett is crediting her getting over the Covid 19 virus to this medication!  I just saw this in my local news feed...I know it's anecdotal but I am so happy for her!  The fact that her doctor put her on it is wonderful.  The Gov here had actually acted like she would ban it and prosecute doctors who used it!  There was outrage here in the local papers and she is now wanting lot's of it...which is great news.  This isn't political....it's about using everything to help the people who get really ill from this virus to recover.  That's it...

I don't understand why anyone would be against it either....but we all have freedom of choice and of course if a person doesn't want to try this drug or the combo then don't use it.  I respect that....but for me I am open to all of it...and this one for sure.

I took it before for a different reason....had no issues with it back then.  And I have taken Z-pak before in my life too....no issues whatsoever.  If I was dx with this virus I would ask for it right away in fact....I wouldn't want to be in a dire situation requiring a ventilator.  I am thinking that could be too late for most any drugs to help.  I know they are working on other options of course...but I don't even want to end up in a hospital....I would do what Dr. Ashton's brother is doing and just take it at home if possible.

Boris is a "somebody" not just another face in the crowd.  Somebodies get treated differently.

I hope he heals quickly no matter what.

Don't waste your breath. It's very funny how science deniers and those who are not in the medical field are now telling us what medications to take. Smart folks listen to the real professionals.

That's interesting, I hadn't read or seen any suggested connection with weight or obesity.

@tansy  Thanks. I wonder how much weight he has lost in 15 months.

BMI index is BS...IMO.

@Drythe I’d forgotten that request. Now reminded I’ll see that it doesn’t happen again.
