Re: Overkill coverage of plane

I don't mind the overkill because when the media sensations stops then it gets dusted under the carpet. Google and see how many Hurricane Sandy victims are still homeless in NJ - media doesn't cover it anymore. It's disgusting.

It's more like pursuing a lead or any prospects....how else do you solve a case? If that's called speculating...fine.

There are many places they could be...why not try and follow a lead?

I trust those pursuing leads, but not a media outlet that reduced itself at one point to speculating about black holes.

It is the job of the investigators to solve the case and follow leads and then to report solid proof to the media to report it to viewers.

What the media is doing with this constant reporting is nothing more than "filler" and frantic attempts to drag anyone they can get their hands on (or find buried in their B/C/D lists of media contacts) in front of their cameras for "expert" opinions and their own spin on events.

Re: Overkill coverage of plane

If the media were actually out LOOKING for the plane that would be one thing.

But sitting around a table thinking up ""possible"" scenarios isn't helping to find anyone.

Neither is people sitting around watching their TVs 24/7 listening to their fanciful theories.

You hit the nail right on the head with that observation. My daughter's youngest just got back into their school on Monday . . . their "school" was in a contingent of trailers up until then. I only know because my daughter told me, I didn't see it on the news, did anyone?

No, Melania, it is not a bash of CNN in general. It happens to be the cable news channel I watch the most for news.

It IS a bash of their coverage of THIS story.

Why is it one can't have an opinion without someone reading something nefarious into it?

I want to know what happened too, but not enough to listen to hours of endless speculation. I almost think it's cruel to put the families through the ups and downs of hope followed by disappointment, over and over and over again.

If I were one of the family members involved in waiting for news, I don't think I could go through that. It would be like a jackhammer hitting me in spurts.

I couldn't either. Don't get me wrong, I would most definitely want them to keep looking for as long as feasible, but as for the media coverage, I would have turned it off days ago.

ITA.

I watch Al-Jazeera America in the morning for their brief updates (which leave out all the junk and just report the known facts) on the missing plane. But they also continue to cover a whole host of other topics in the US and abroad.

I take it some here forget that ABC's Nightline program came from the Iranian hostage crisis.

No, I haven't forgotten, but ABC didn't devote 24 hours a day to it. They devoted a half and hour per tonight.

Completely different.

On the radio this afternoon, CNN is being referred to as Conjecture News Network. Lol
