The other phrase I hate is "Long Story Short" only to be followed by a really long story.
My husband went through a phase with 'you know what I mean?'. Uh, yeah, I do speak the language. Again, however, with just keeping my mouth shut because people don't like to be 'corrected' and told how to speak. But it sure can be frustrating.

If hate the word basically. No one knows how to even use this word correctly. Talk about the dumbing down of America! What a shame.

Now that you brought it up.... I hate the expression
"passed". Passed ? What, gas? They died. There is nothing wrong with saying what happened-they died. Hardly anyone says 'died' anymore. Are they afraid that they too will die if they use the word?
And while I'm at it, what's with 'rest in peace'? They are dead. They are not taking a nap. they can't hear you say it and they aren't resting, they are dead.
Other annoying phrases: 'reach out'-- no just call or contact or text me. "Love me some..." Please stop saying that.
OK, I'm through.

When a friend/family member keeps saying "You know".
If they want to break that habit, they should ask the people around them to reply
"No, I don't know."
This way they will become cognizant of that habit and will hopefully stop it.
My phrases that I'm tired of hearing"
"She lights up a room"
"busy Mom" - we're all busy

"I died" or "I'm dead," when someone thinks something is really funny.
"I'm shook"
"I seen that"
"hot mess"
