I want all my bank statement mailed to me too. I check them, and I keep them.  Online statements are just another way the banks are passing the cost onto their customers.

Hopefully the new bank you move your money too won't do the same thing.  However, I think in time, no statements will be mailed to any customers.  The younger people are okay with everything online and they don't want the clutter.  I still have a basic mistrust of everything just existing on the Internet.

I pay nothing online and I get all my statements regarding my accounts in the mail.  None of the financial institutions charge a thing for the documents.   Since I was a jr. in high school when I opened my first checking and savings account I have loved writing the checks and getting the mail.  Still do.

@beckyb1012  I am guessing you are a boomer like I am?  I am 67 this week and also write checks for most bills when I can.  I think check writing will be gone when we Boomers die off.... it is what I grew up with....the youngsters today would never write a check😄

I balance my paper statement every month, but for some reason can't do it when trying on line. I don't know why I have trouble with doing that. Hopefully, my bank won't do that.

Me too @catter70

My bank charges a fee to mail statements also, and I refuse to pay it.

I get the statement online and print it....then balance the old fasion way!

I had been w/ M&T bank for over 35 years....mtgs, loans, LOC,  savings, checking, CDs, you name it.

I had a problem I wanted to discuss.  When I called (toll free number), she put me on hold...came back and said they were unable to take my call.  I was not connected to a local branch.

"What did I want?"

I explained...on hold again...she came back and said "I am so embarrassed to say this, but I was told to say you can go bank somewhere else if our policies don't work for you"

Well, okay then!  I did, and took everyone I knew outta M&T as well.

I don't see the need for paper statements any longer.  It's just something I'm going to wind up shredding anyway.  I can access my accounts 24 hours a day.  If I need to have a paper copy, I can just print out what I need.

And in the case of my in-laws both of them 90+ years old, don't have a computer and never had one, don't know how to use the internet, don't have a smart phone.  Then what?

I am 60 and just made the cutoff of that boomer status and I am so happy to be there.   I worry about the money the younger generations are spending by just doing an app or a swipe or whatever. ?? (no clue about any of that stuff)    If you have to do a bit more effort to spend sometimes you may not spend needlessly.  I am cheaper than dirt. Woman Wink

I'm 62 and the only check I wrote in 2022 was a birthday check to my 9 year old niece.  She used that check to open a savings account.  I've been paying everything online or by phone for probably 10 years.  I do my taxes online. I did my whole retirement and pension plan disbursements online.  Which did surprise me but between my fax machine and Zoom, it was no different than face to face in HR.  I don't think the 30somethings in my family have checking accounts or like me, they might have them but never have a reason to use a check.

For me, the less paper the better. I have hardly any paper files.

@CelticCrafter  Then I assume they will continue to get paper statements mailed to them.

People are losing their options. Self checkout is now an option but, in time, it will no longer be an option but required. The same with online banking. Banks make money from our deposits and now want to require their depositors to pay for internet service, computer/smart phone, and, if they want paper statements, either pay the bank or provide a printer, ink, and paper at their expense. If the banks were fair, those choosing online statements should get a financial reward. As it is, those wanting their statements sent to them, are punished with a fee. The more we accept paying a company's cost of doing business, the more that cost will be transferred to us.
