@cookinfreak   I sometimes substitute bratwurst but not as good as Wranglers.  I like them with mustard, onion and Cole slaw.

@Boomernichols....lol.  Too funny, precious!  Thanks for the laugh.

Don't y'all hurt me now for starting this thread and all of us wanting hot dogs.  It's the Q's fault for showing those on the gourmet show just now.  LOL.

That’s new to me. Cole slaw on a frankfurter. Sounds good. And yes we call them frankfurters.

@kittykatkay  You know, that does sound good. I'll have one with chile, cole slaw, a dab of mustard and a little hot pepper sauce.

Re: On A Lighter Note.......

And I love that you can get them without nitrates (nitrites) now.  @kittykatkay , good topic.  I love Dijon mustard, relish, ketchup.  Haven't had chopped onions on in a long time, but oh, yes, that is tasty.  If I happen to have made chili, it's fun the next day to have a chili dog, but first choice is probably mustard, relish, ketchup...

Rarely have I found a hotdog bun that pleases.  Usually too doughy, and I end up discarding half of it.  I like top-split buns, preferably grilled on barbecue...

Re: On A Lighter Note.......

[ Edited ]

Anyone who has ever eaten a chili dog from the famous downtown Atlanta restaurant/drive-in/carryout known as The Varsity will want a certain type of hot dog all the time.

So we do have them frequently, made at home, although we can also get them in  Athens or Marietta, GA, or at the Atlanta airport---and believe me, we've had a lot of them from all Varsity locations.  DH grew up on them.

All you need is some frankfurters, some good hot dog buns,  and a can of Hormel Chili.

The chili has to be the Hormel "hot" flavored "without beans"--or the commercially sold Varsity brand used at the restaurant.

Stuff the bun with the frankfurter, top with chili, and squirt a line of yellow mustard on the chili.

The other famous hot dogs from The Varsity include the chili/cheese/slaw dog  (my favorite)  and a few other variations.

If you want a chili dog order  to carry out, you ask for a chili dog walkin'

Re: On A Lighter Note.......

Unfortunately I prefer hot dogs with casings.  Used to live in MI where there was Kowalski.

Now in FL found Hofmann brand ONCE at Aldi.  Since sending Instacart there, they can't seem to find them...once I get my mask, going there myself.

Eat them various ways, but no saurkraut.

@Janey2...it is so good.  I remember when I was a young girl and my mom would take me and my sister to "Kresses" a department store that had a soda fountain.  We always got hot dogs with hot dog chilli and cole slaw on top of that.  It is so good.........

How good is it?????????

It's SO GOOD, it'll make a "BULLDOG HUG A HOUND"!!!  LOL.
