@Shanus wrote:Ah, oatmeal. I love it on a cold winter morning. I put sugar free maple syrup on mine. I try to do the long cooking type, but if in a hurry, the instant microwave type is better than nothing. With theis egg/chicken "thing", oatmeal is sounding like a good alternative.
@Shanus there is no such thing as sugar free maple syrup. You probably meant to say was artificial maple flavored pancake syrup.

I eat oatmeal every day with blueberries, strawberries, and a banana. I buy these at Costco. Sprouted oats are easier to digest.

@KittySoftPaws wrote:@bmorechick I hear ya, I hit the genetic lottery with high cholesterol. No Pharma drugs for me either. Omitting seed oils, MSG (hidden under so many different names) albeit not easy, unless making your own condiments etc. and going vegan with seafood only. Working well so far, feeling great, and not missing anything.
@KittySoftPaws You're right - not easy but worth it. No red meat and we live near the ocean, so fresh caught seafood is always available. I see a cardiologist every year as I have afib. He was actually amazed at my labs. His advice - keep it up, keep running and working out and unless he sees a negative trend, no statins here. I'm 69 years old and I want to avoid the drugs as long as possible. I witnessed the side effects of them on my mom. Not pleasant.

@shoekitty wrote:I love organic steel cut oats Takes so long to cook, but so good. I don't put anything but a few flame raisins , and maybe a dash of cinnamon. I like butter on them, but I forgo the fat and calories,.
I make steel cut oatmeal in the microwave. It takes five minutes to cook.
I put 1/3 cup of oats and 3/4 cups of water into a really high sided bowl about 6 inches high. I set the timer to five minutes. You need a high sided bowl or it will rise and spill all over.
I like them a tad on the firm side, not mushy. If you want them softer, cook them an extra minute or two.

I'm eating oatmeal right now. I make it in the microwave with water. I had to put it back in because it came out too soupy; I like it thick. Today I had some blueberries to put in. If only my mother could see me voluntarily eating oatmeal.

Grew up eating the old-fashioned style. We'd make it on a wood fired cookstove in winter. Now I make it in the slow cooker with a chopped apple and walnuts. I think it has a lot of carbs so I haven't made any oatmeal this year.
