Oatmeal is one of those foods that I wanted to like. I tried to like it. But no matter how it was prepared or what I put in or on it, I just could not eat it. And, like broccoli, it does not taste bad to me, I just don’t want to eat either for some reason.

I love organic steel cut oats   Takes so long to cook, but so good. I don't put anything but a few flame raisins , and maybe a dash of cinnamon. I like butter on them, but I forgo the fat and calories,.

Yeah...I really remember the "oatmeal days".

(I thought it tasted like paste...and YES, of course I have tried paste out of curiosity)...

@Desertdi I can't stand it if it is cooked to paste.  I microwave it in water, just a minute or minute and a half, then add milk, a little salt, and maybe a little maple syrup and flax oil which makes it like you have butter in it and you don't.  That way it is hot and a little cooked but not slime/paste/goo.

Well, I had no idea people not only still eat oatmeal, but enjoy it. Maybe I should try it again. Maybe I've been missing out on a good thing.

Steel cut oats for me, every other day, yogurt on the alternate days.  I cook my oats with 1/4 C. dried cranberries and a small spoonful of the cooked bacon crumbles that I buy in a big bag from Costco.  Maple syrup on top.   Sweet, savory and salty.  Yum!  Very satisfying.

Oats are also good with a spoonful of peanut butter and cinnamon stirred in when it's done cooking as an alternative to the dried fruit/bacon version.

Plain with a smidge of pink salt.  I actually prefer it bland.  And just came home from Walmart with the organic brand they sell.  Quick oats.

Yikes!!

All this steel-cut, cage-free, free range, sugar free, imported oatmeal is news to me!

All this healthy esoteric stuff makes me want to take my Quaker Instant Apples and Cinnamon or Cinnamon Spice packets and hide in the closet as I enjoy their convenient and probably over-processed goodness!

(With a little milk on top.)

As a child I remember the cardboard cylinder from Quaker that had Barbara Bush on the front and you had to cook on the stove.

The truly vile stuff for me was (UGH!!!) Cream of Wheat.

Tasted like hot wallpaper paste.

Maypo and Wheatena were also things that should only have been served at GITMO.

I have never enjoyed milk with oatmeal but I do enjoy oatmeal with lots of cinnamon and a dollop of peanut butter or a honey peanut butter spread.

@bmorechick  I hear ya, I hit the genetic lottery with high cholesterol. No Pharma drugs for me either. Omitting seed oils, MSG (hidden under so many different names) albeit not easy, unless making your own condiments etc. and going vegan with seafood only. Working well so far, feeling great, and not missing anything.
