Not Alone in Needing to Hear 'Let It Be'

[ Edited ]

I felt a need for this song at this troubled time.

Apparently I'm not the only one in search of music to soothe the pain.  Check out the date of the posting of this YouTube entry.  Today.  August 26, 2021

For those who fret about religious content, many (most?) people think "Mother Mary" refers to Paul McCartney's mother whose name was Mary.  He wrote the song.  Of course, if one chooses, one can interpret the name from a different reference point.  This is what makes art.

It's important to detatch emotionally from the things we can't control and to avoid focusing too long on human inhumanity and darkness. I stay aware but I don't dwell on the dark. My being miserable has never reduced anyone else's misery.

There will always be incomprehensible tragedy in the world. We need to keep up our strength so that we are ready at a moment's notice to do what we can about the things under our control. Otherwise as sensitive people we can quickly get compassion burnout and become ineffective. And strong, ready, compassionate people are what we need right now in order to change things for the good.

When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.

Thank you, Porcelain.  I just keep crying, though.  Too much pain.

In addition to everything else, the D.C area has had so many horrific shootings that snuffed out lives of young people.  I was mourning the loss from Tuesday night of a bright light of a child.  He was only  8 years old and, by all accounts, was a smart, caring and loving little boy.  He and his mother were visiting friends at an apartment complex.  The mother was on the patio and P.J. (his initials) was eating tacos and playing video games at a table inside the apartment.  It was Taco Tuesday.

An unknown assailant stopped outside the apartment complex and sprayed several rounds at several apartments.  P.J. was not a target but he died.  He was a rising third-grader who was looking forward to returning to school this coming Monday.  His teachers loved him.

These stories just keep coming, one after the other.

After trying to deal with that news, today's news brought a flood of sadness.

So, I just have to "let it be" for a bit and suspend myself in music.

I'm also getting teary with 'Where is The Love', Black Eyed Peas.

The Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love? (Official Music Video) - YouTube

By the way, this was recorded in 2003, watch it and see how many 'issues' being mentioned in it still exist in 2021.........sad on all fronts.

Much as I love McCartney's Let It Be, I don't love the repeated attempts here to "subtly" discuss topics that have been deleted.

Some people just won't let it be.

Oh, Pearlee, where is your heart?

You and I just do not see things the same way.

From my perspective, we need more inclusiveness and conciliatory thoughts.

I do not feel like quibbling about our differing world views because neither one of us will change the other.  I think that's a given.

Re: Not Alone in Needing to Hear 'Let It Be'

In these times of chaos and sadness, it is difficult to remain focused on the positive.  I find music helps me especially if it takes me back to wonderful memories and peace of mind.  Earlier I went out for a bit and had Johnny Mathis on the radio, his oldies which always relax me.  I love his music, always have.  By the time I reached my destination I had a calm feeling, thanks Johnny, you always do it for me!

Any music helps, your choice, there is so many soothing words, tranquil tunes which help you to relax.  I wish you peace, golding76!

Turn off the news!  You have to at some point, you cannot keep focusing on the bad all day every day.  Give yourselves a break.

Like the other poster, I stay aware, but I'm smart enough to know when I have had enough.  It doesn't do anyone any good if I am stressed or anxiety ridden over things that are out of my control.

I had a friend that was so stressed out after 9-11.  I get that, I really do, but she was obsessed to the point that is all she thought about day after day, month after month.  She made herself a total wreck being sick with worry, and it really affected her mentally and physically.

Step away!  Do something good for yourself, or others, but do not keep focusing on all the stuff that is happening.

Re: Not Alone in Needing to Hear 'Let It Be'

Thank you for the wise words.  I do have to shut off the news and dip into reading fiction and listening to music (as well as speaking with friends).

However, in speaking with friends, sometimes we get into the heavy stuff.  It is difficult but necessary to switch my focus.  You are so right.
