In addition to everything else, the D.C area has had so many horrific shootings that snuffed out lives of young people. I was mourning the loss from Tuesday night of a bright light of a child. He was only 8 years old and, by all accounts, was a smart, caring and loving little boy. He and his mother were visiting friends at an apartment complex. The mother was on the patio and P.J. (his initials) was eating tacos and playing video games at a table inside the apartment. It was Taco Tuesday.
An unknown assailant stopped outside the apartment complex and sprayed several rounds at several apartments. P.J. was not a target but he died. He was a rising third-grader who was looking forward to returning to school this coming Monday. His teachers loved him.
These stories just keep coming, one after the other.
After trying to deal with that news, today's news brought a flood of sadness.
So, I just have to "let it be" for a bit and suspend myself in music.
@golding76 I feel for you and your pain. I feel the hopelessness from time to time, but I feel this way about all of humanity. Of course, all it takes is a local news event to make us wonder, but I'm learning how to deal with these things by putting them into a perspective I can understand.
That being said, humans are violent, we have been and always will be. We do awful things to one another that just boggles the mind. I'm trying to compartmentalize the awful things I hear and read by reminding myself that what we experience is in fact human. The hard part is making sure I remember this. The good, bad, and ugly is all human experience.

However, in speaking with friends, sometimes we get into the heavy stuff. It is difficult but necessary to switch my focus. You are so right.
Set groundrules! We have had to do that with some get togethers - no politics! Period. I have actually gotten up to leave the room if topics started to turn a direction I knew would upset me or cause tension. It's ok to speak up, or walk away.

Some people just won't let it be.
I truly don't believe that this thread is meant to do that.
It's feeling like you want to find some comfort in songs with EVERYTHING going on in the world.
Please live and let live.......

Many of my healing songs can't be listed here becaise of whom they reference.. One of my secular favorites Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On?" He perfectly captures the confusion, sense of hopelessness, and anguish. Yet, there is a sense of hope echoing in the lyrics.

Unfortunately, I can't list what/who I turn to either. Sad times indeed.

I feel your pain about the poor child.![]()
Tuesday morning a 41 year old woman with a 12 year old son was DUI at 7:02 AM (yes, you read that right) taking him to school, when she left the road on the shoulder and crashed into a tree, then into the marsh about a mile from my house.
Of course she was injured, but her 12 year old son died.
Some soothing music helps me........
ETA: It reminds me of a recent thread about 'My friend and his 3rd DUI'.

I'm in Maryland/DC area, too.
Yes, the nightly shootings and those of children are heart breaking.
I've had to turn off the news for now.
I'm spending time making blankets for children in need, and gift baskets for a local animal rescue. It soothes my soul a bit.
