We also have a variety of crackers and snacks. All medicines filled. Friends just called and will be able take me shopping Sunday f we should need anything.  We are Blessed.  My DH  brother lives  15 minutes from us, normally commutes from Macon but home for a week. @SouthernBee- I'm so glad you posted again!  I've been worrying about you all night and trying to figure out how I could get food to you. I'm so relieved.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@CatLoverDogsToo: Thank you for your concern and offer of help. We will manage. We live about 3 blocks behind Cracker Barrel. We will be praying for you and your family. We had thought about  purchasing emergency food. We were looking at grills  and I had planned to purchase one for DH birthday. Southern Bee

Re: North Georgia Storm Prep Report

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the keys didn't disappear.  I'm so worried about those 10 people staying with the cats.  If anyone hears anything about them, I hope you'll post it.

My solution for storms and laziness when you don't want to cook: Campbell's Chicken Corn Chowder.  Self opening tab can and I love the stuff.  I never tried it cold but don't think it would be bad.

@Katcat1  Oceans are exceptionally warm right now which probably has something to do with storms.  Someone said they heard 90° down to 200ft.

So glad to hear you won't be subsisting on 3 cans of beans. Whew,  I was worried.   If you're 3 blocks from Cracker Barrel, you can eat high on the hog.   If power goes out, try to leave freezer closed.  Stay safe!

@gidgetgh: Please forgive me- I  try not to worry or burden any one. As soon as I heard the news was trying to take inventory of what we have and may need. We have batteries and several big and small flash lights . Friend will help me Sunday to move the front porch furniture- just two chairs and small table. When store restock will definitely plan ahead with more no perishable items, small grill. Will be praying for you and your family.Southern Bee

Our 2 nieces (ages 45 & 46) are SCHEDULED to fly into Atlanta Wednesday afternoon, on their way to Phoenix..their first vacation EVER, they started planning this 6 months ago..praying that the airport is open by then, that Irma does not ruin this for them, of course, praying for everyone affected by this horrible storm.

Re: North Georgia Storm Prep Report

My daughter was due to start her Graduate Studies in Savannah this week. We had the van packed and ready to leave this past Tuesday but we received messages from the school not to travel. They did not want students on campus until after this storm passes. At one point Savannah was going to be a direct hit and they evacuated any students that had already traveled. We are just here in Pa waiting to see what happens in Savannah. Prayers to all impacted by this moonster storm. Hopefully those in South Florida listened to the officials and evacuated. I guess we have similar situations in the stores up here when snow is forcasted - the store shelves empty out pretty fast (bread , eggs and milk, sometimes water ) like the world is ending.

Our stores in Central Florida have been out of everything since Monday morning.

People aren't believing it is a terrible storm so they are buying supplies and planning to stay.  I am staying in a concrete home.  Publix has been restocking as fast as possible and can't keep up.  Winn Dixie has also.

There are sites on the net where people will post, "Winn Dixie just got bread or water or canned goods" and they are being snatched up quickly.  Florida has a lot of people, lots of people!

I still don't have a cooking method if we lose power.  I have a grill but no charcoal and none to be bought!

@Zhills  Why aren't people believing that a Cat 4 or 5 is "a terrible storm"?  Not terrible compared to what??  I'm honestly puzzled by that.

To all, right now, kudos to our Governor Rick Scott-and also to governors of every state affected.

This is a huge event, but help through the National Guard and Red Cross is in place.

We live in an affluent neighborhood, but both organizations went knocking door to door-passing out water and MREs....we didn't need any, but so appreciated it....if only they could have delivered air conditioning and water for showering and flushing......

Buggy, we made it through....I still remember the joy of seeing a single street lamp come on....civilization was on the mend-it meant so much....so very, very much......

@Poodlepet2  Not ashamed to say we actually ran after utility trucks when we would see one rolling down our street without stopping after Katrina.  Neighbors were trying to flag them down like taxis, lol.The driver would tell us that they had to go to the location they were sent to.  But it hurt so much to see them heading off to restore some other neighborhood's electricity!  As you said, a sign of civilization.....
