Once I calculated what I had spent shipping the 17 items in the previous six months, it was a no-brainer to switch to Prime.

In addition to free two-day shipping I enjoy the entertainment aspect of Amazon Prime. There are movies, documentaries, HBO and Starz feature films, books, and music, free or very low cost, included with membership.
