I don't recall anyone telling the public then not to or that it would create a shortage. Maybe that's why we have a shortage now? Haha, I doubt it because many people bought it back then. The news said the anthrax was being sent through the mail...was that fake news....well we were not taking any chances of dying from anthrax and still have that box of N95 masks. Never received our envelope filled with anthrax.
Come to think of it I think we got a perscription of Cipro for each of us too. I bet it's still in our cupboard.
Ummm, it *was* being sent through the mail...maybe not to the extent people thought it would happen, but it *wasn't* "fake news..."

What's the excuse once the medical experts pushed wearing masks and as I remember it was awhile ago. Maybe in the beginning masks weren't pushed but once it wa established masks help prevent spreading the disease that was all I needed to hear.
The very sad and tragic situation about this pandemic is that it has become a political issue and that presents danger and is detrimental to all.

...then you can take it off once you get in lol.
LOL Walmart is not enforcing state mandates (of orders, not laws, BTW) in states where face diaper-wearing is required. Walmart is certainly not going to jettison customers from their stores for failure of shoppers whose states (and their competing stores) don't require face diapers, to wear them.

@stevieb wrote:The whole 'denying science' mantra is not only stale it's not really accurate. 'Science' didn't initially embrace mask wearing. It took them several months of waffling to decide it's ostensibly, as of now anyway, imperative... Is it any wonder segments of the public didn't immediately fall in line...
'Science' is not a static thing -- a collection of facts that never changes. The ideas change and develop with new information, theories, studies, analysis, etc. I, for one, am happy that they have continued to update what they know about the virus and best practices to prevent and treat it. With new information comes better insight; doesn't mean it should be ignored if it contrasts with something scientists previously thought to be true.

@jonbon - Well said. What about when people thought the earth was flat and you'd fall off the edge? (Sadly, some people still believe that, I know.)
If science remained immutable, we wouldn't have the medical and techinical knowledge we now rely on to save lives. Blaming science for the "to wear or not to wear debate", is just an excuse for those who don't want to wear one.

@Nancy Drew wrote:I don't provide links myself. However on the CDC front page they advocate for mask. However in the advance search , then other links the report on 3 types of masks come up. N95, surgical and cloth. I personally find it disconcerting on the very same website the cons of surgical and cloth mask hidden then prompted hard on the front page. Now do I think they can reevaluate the pros and cons? Yes but I wish they were more transparent about their change of mind.
@Nancy Drew - I've read through the information on the CDC's website on wearing masks; all of the sections on the subject and it firmly advocates wearing a mask (and how to care for them, etc.). There is no mention of the issue of "micro mildew".
After your above post, I also did an "Advanced Search" and I still could not find any reference to what you have mentioned above or in your previous posts.
Can you please tell me what you put in the search bar to produce the information you are saying is provided by the CDC - because I simply don't find anything like that on their website.
I would like to be able to verify it for myself.

Just in general, I think anyone who refuses to wear a mask as mandated or requested; anyone who thinks this is all media hype or a hoax - who then goes on to contract COVID-19 should have to waive any right to hospital treatment.
Those people should not be allowed to risk the lives of dedicated medical personnel who are trying to cope with this pandemic.
After all, if it's just a hoax or over-hyped, you couldn't possibly get it, could you? So it would all just be in your head. Stay home and get well on your own.
(Yes, the pathetic arguments and excuses people have for not complying with reasonable requests to protect everyone make me angry. Compared to prior generations we are asked to do so little - and people still complain about their rights.)

Not sure where you're getting your information from but as of 15Jul according to the European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention
Europe has 2.7 million cases of Covid 19 with over 200,000 deaths.
Florida has 300,000 cases with 4,250 deaths.
It's not helpful to post inaccurate information.
