COVID-19 could be controlled in 1-2 months if people wear masks: CDC Director Robert Redfield.
More than 3.4 million people in the country have been diagnosed with the coronavirus and over 136,000 people have died.
To Redfield, a major key to controlling the pandemic is wearing masks.
"I really do believe if the American public all embraced masking now and we really did it, you know, rigorously ... I think if we can get everybody to wear a mask right now, I really do think over the next four to six, eight weeks, we can bring this epidemic under control," Redfield said.
"I do think the fall and the winter of 2020 and 2021 are going to be probably one of the most difficult times ... in American public health because of ... the co-occurrence of COVID and influenza," he told JAMA.
Redfield stressed the importance of getting the flu vaccine, "because I think those two respiratory pathogens hitting this at the same time do have the potential to stress our health system."

Everybody get your flu shot this year if you can.
In positive Mask news, Walmart just decided to Mandate and Require mask wearing in all their stores in all states! Bout time. But an excellent development in controlling this disease.

I probably shouldn't encourage but, for those who care, I have started wearing a mask when I am out and about on personal time which isn't often after work but when I am, I do now.
Blame it on the posts here and the fact that I see more and more people wearing them around town.
Glad to see the major retailers are going to get in line too. I guess when you make it part of the uniform for everyone, it's easier to comply for some reason.

Guess what? The pandemic could have been almost over or at least very well controlled in this country by *now* had EVERYONE stopped denying the science and wore masks. *That* is the crime and pity here. Incomprehensible.
And as long as people continue to refuse to follow the public health guidelines we will be in a neverending opening and closing with thousands more deaths.

Common sense, wearing a mask helps protect the spread of a serious disease, it should be mandated that everyone wear a mask for the well being of themselves and others. If you want your freedoms back, wear a mask, a simple sacrifice.

I even mask up when I go across the street to my locked mail box. One of the neighbors who was working in his yard, masked, looked at me kind of funny!

@Deree ..... No the crime and pity is that the virus was not taken as a concern earlier. What is "incomprehensible" is the " role" models that do not follow the recommendations.

You're right because initially we were told by the medical professionals not by ANY politician to not wear a mask. Remember ? There was a shortage. smh

Totally agree @germanshepherdlove
I think it mattered that when it all first started, the media and several well known physicians went on a campaign against mask wearing.
Three months later I've yet to hear one of them say oops, we're sorry. Put it on. We were wrong like that is some kind of crime to admit to.
When you do an about face and don't even acknowledge the other side of your mouth, the sliver of credibility the media may still have about certain things is beyond gone and people just stop listening; including me for a time.

@Sheila P-Burg Agree about the important role models who do not follow the recommendations. Regardless people should have more Common Sense to understand that when a lethal respiratory illness is spread by respiratory droplets, to cover your nose and mouth with a mask. For those complaining that "we were told" not to wear masks at the beginning.... Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist. Yes I'm angry.
