I think it's because of all the duvets being shown nowadays. I always have used top sheets, but I know that my BFF (from Czechia) does not in her home.
I remember shopping with her one time and I was searching for sheet sets on sale and she said no sets for her because she had no use for the top sheet. She just needed the bottom sheet (not even fitted) and pillowcases. She said that they used duvet covers over their down comforters and just use that duvet as the topper. And she and her husband each had their own duvet for their side of the bed so they didn't have to share.
That was a strange idea to me then, but right now I'm using a duvet with cover - but I still use the top sheet underneath! It's a king size duvet, no separate ones for DH & I. With a senior pet (with an ocassional "iffy" tummy) it's easy to unzip the cover and wash it. My beautiful bed spread with all the pillows are put away right now. ![]()

No way, no how...and what for? It ain't broke, I don't plan on "fixing it."
I mean, first of all the sheet on your body is cooling. 2nd...duh....you WASH it frequently...which you won't do with any comforter or topper of any kind.
Another dopey idea. #OkBoomer ps #Boomersrock ![]()

I have not used a top sheet for many, many years.
I see no value for me personally.
A throw or lightweight quilt or coverlet depending upon the season is sufficient, and all are easily washable.
To each their own. Who cares unless you're sharing the bed with a fellow poster.
That it's a debate is fascinating.

The next major debate will be how you put your toilet paper roll in the dispenser over or under? Inquiring minds want to know.

I believe that toilet paper has been subject to debate and heated argument here several times!
Of course there is only one correct and proper answer.
Those crazy, lazy kiddos.

I'm also "older" and certainly wouldn't be considered "New Generation" but I haven't used a top sheet in years. I probably had/used them as a kid but I don't remember.
My feet and legs get claustrophbic and I can't stand for the top sheet to be tucked in. If I'm somewhere that has a top sheet, I'll untuck it or kick it out first thing. Besides, I much prefer soft blankets, etc. against my skin.

I have to have my top sheet.I love the feel of my cotton sheets. Can't sleep without it. ![]()

Well I certainly hope they keep selling the complete ensemble as always, or at least label the package top sheet or not. Also, good luck with those scratchy blankets. I think it is stupid personally.
