Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

@Biftu  I think you're lucky to be able to choose your colors. Our HoA has more rules than the IRS and exact matches of color are de rigeur, on file at Sherwin Williams. I woudl love to at least paint the front door a distinctive color (teal preferably), but it's not allowed. I am talking fines, etc.

In your case, I hope your neighbors use different trim colors, etc. I would have no hesitation in speaking to them about the issue since it bothers you.

Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

I agree with painting the door - our house is pretty traditional, taupe-ish color on the house, black shutters and a burgandy door.  I also compliment the house with compatable flowers.

And I would be irked if my neighbor painted their house the same color as mine...but there is nothing that can be done about it.

I'm quite serious.

What those neighbors did was unacceptable, rude, and presumptuous.

I suspect those who have been dismissive of the OP's justified feelings, and mine, indentify with the copycats.

My statement refers to how you would treat a neighbor.  I would not treat a neighbor the way you said you would. I would do the right thing and be friendly. PS...my home is all brick, so this isn't a personal issue to me. We reroofed our home in 2018, and a neighbor with a similar brick color liked it so much, that he asked what shingle/color it was. I was more than happy to tell him, because I know how long it took to find the roof I have and how difficult it was finding the "perfect" color to compliment the brick. I was glad to help.

@Ainhisg A roof is way different than a whole house color.

Not when their color of brick is very similar to ours. After they got their new roof, both houses have the same roof, similar brick, same garage door color, same gutter color, same front door color, etc.

Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

have honestly NEVER heard of this being "a thing" to some people.

it would not phase me one bit.

in the neighborhoods i have lived in there have been issues over the years with overgrown brush and weeds, people not mowing their lawns, junk sitting out in backyards and driveways, fencing, pet behavior.

having someone care about their home and wanting it to look its best on the inside and the outside is the best type of neighbor to have!

Re: Neighbor’s House Paint

My neighborhood is governed by an association. We have to use the colors they have picked out for us. Many homes have same color schemes & trims. You are so fortunate you can pick your own colors & rely on your own taste.

I remember Levittown here on LI in the 1950's and 1960's when every house was nearly identical.  Okay, they had a few different models, but basically one street resembled the next.

I can understand why you are upset at the moment.  However, in 5 years from now when you look back, where on the scale of 1 - 25 do you think it will be for you ?

Back to the present, you can choose to remain upset but what does that bring you benefit-wise ?  Change your focus(es) and see how you feel about the copycat issue.

Still in the present, posters here have given you some ideas: change the trim, paint the door a distinct, possibly bold color, add unique accessories ( porch swing, several distinctive hanging baskets, flower boxes on front windows, decor items, add a matching garden shed near the front, etc. ).
