@drizzellla   Something is not right.  With your inital concerns and you found him napping ?   Did he wake up and speak ?   If he didnt, something is wrong.

My thoughts as well...if she didn't physically get a response  how do you know he's ok??

drizzella,

Could you ask your local police department to conduct a wellness check?

@drizzellla   Also, let the police know you have the key to his house.  Police in doing wellness checks are not allowed inside the home w/o a search warrant.  You may need to let them inside the house since you have a key.  At least that is the way it is in my neck of the woods.

I find it strange that you have the key to this man's house, seen his sons yet, you never got any of his childrens phone numbers?  Do the children know you have a key to their fathers house?  confused.gif

@Mz iMac. Police do not need a warrant to enter a house to do a welfare check.  They need a warrant to search.

@Kachina624

In my county when you call the police for a wellness check, all they do is knock on the door.  If no one answers, they look in the windows to see if anything is amiss.  If nothing looks amiss, they notify the person who called for the WC to ask permission to go inside the house.  Then the police gets a search warrant.   If there is any reason of concern, the police needs a search warrant to enter the house to "search" for the alleged missing occupant.

No key or open windows, they will break out a window or break down the door.

And yes I did not talk to him. I didn't want to wake him. But he was breathing and his arm was up under his chin in the recliner. He moved his arm slightly.

@drizzellla Since you have no legal rights in the matter, call a relative.  If nothing changes, call your state department of human services and let them take it from there.

That is all you can or legally can do.

It could be he is not feeling well, and i do think he would need some food, and items,so i would take a look at his kitchen, just to see if he has food ,if he has not seen his kids for a few weeks, then he may need stuff.

@drizzellla You are a kind and caring person, but your neighbor is clearly in need of professional assessment NOW. Don't be afraid. Call the police right now. Don't wait any longer.

During the summer and warmer weather my neighbor was out and about everyday. For the last several years we took him out to lunch on a regular basis. We talked to him everyday and helped with the yardwork. Until Covid virus hit.

Ever since his kids took away his car keys, we don't see him anymore. But his kids were visiting alot more than they ever had. So we backed off.

And yes, I am going to call again tomorrow and keep calling until I talk to him. I have the phone #s for his wife's 2 daughters (from previous marriage). But we were never given phone #s for his kids. But since they rarely visited we never had a need to talk to them.

I am so upset that none of his kids have visited him since Thanksgiving. And then it was only one daughter and she didn't stay long. So I hope to have a long talk with him. We have offered numerous times to go grocery shopping for him or run errands. He always said no. I think we should not take "no" for an answer anymore.

Something doesn't seem right. He may have had a stroke or something else wrong. I would call the police for a wellness check. He may not be able to walk if something is wrong. I had a friend that laid on her floor for 2 days because she had a stroke & couldn't move. Since we couldn't get hold of her we called the police for a wellness check & found out she had a stroke & couldn't get up, walk as the stroke paralized one side of her body. Please don't wait another minute & have the police check on him. Please give us updates as this is very concerning.

drizzella,

I'm so glad that you found him alive (as, I am sure, you were, too).

You are wonderful!  Again, you are a superlative example of a good neighbor.

Bless you!

You are a wonderful neighbor looking out for him, but just because he was napping in his chair watching tv doesn't mean all Is well.  It only means he's alive. My brother passed away in his lounge chair watching tv. You don't know how long your neighbor has been in the chair.  Maybe he can't get around or get out of the chair. I would definitely get a wellness check done.

I would have to make sure he is okay,  i do think a out side person ,the police would be a good idea.
