After the car & truck attacks overseas, the NYC cops & the FBI have developed a relationship with car/truck rental outlets in NY & NJ, teaching them how to spot a bogus ID and sharing other information.

I don't know how the guy got to the Home Depot.

Don't know if he stole or rented the truck.

The bad guys can steal a vehicle from anywhere.

We'll just have to wait and see.

But I have faith that NYC and the local FBI office including Homeland Security has been doing all they can since 9/11.

CBS news reported he showed his license and rented the truck. They found his car in the parking lot. He is an Uber driver.

@software I heard at least 24 attacks have been thwarted since 9/11.

This arrest may may yield a lot of valuable information to help law enforcement.

My granddaughter lives and works on the west side of Manhattan.  As I quickly texted her, a post came in from Facebook which provided news that "I am safe."  She took advantage of that post and sent it to all of her friends and family.  We then had a short exchange from my text.

She also talked to her mother (the daughter who lives with me).  Her attitude was that of a brave New Yorker even though she has only lived there for two years (she is now 21).  She loves "her" city and said she will never leave.

It's a whole new world for today's youngsters.

I'm a native New Yorker - born, raised and still living here.  I worked two blocks from yesterday's attack. I agree with you 100%!

I'm grateful my husband decided he had enough with the NYC traffic and decided it was time to pack it in and retire.

Who knows what time he would have walked in the door last night if he were still working.

I don’t understand.8 people were mowed down by a terrorist & you’re grateful that your husband didn’t come home late?

Yes, when it got to the point where he was spending 20-30 hours a week commuting, yes I am grateful that he wasn't there or near the sight...not sorry for being selfish.

I too am grateful that my loved ones were safe in NYC yesterday. But I still hurt for all those that weren’t so lucky. When my city hurts I hurt.

I get that. But that country is NOT even on the "list"

I'm all for vetting people but he was and had no record.

That's my point.

Point well taken.  Can't really say much- or poof we will go.   This needs expanded- instead of being in courts and blocked with every action attempted.   Safety for us , first.
